UF STUFF VOLLEYBALL FERRIS STATE 3FINDLAY 2BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Findlay volleyball team took top-seeded Ferris State into overtime in the first set and to the brink of elimination all day before falling to the unbeaten, No. 1-ranked Bulldogs 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-13 in the championship game of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional finals.Hannah Miller was 59-of-71 attacking with 25 kills and 15 digs in the regional final. Kenzie Hoelscher and Alana Pohlman had 12 kills each and Grace Auer had eight. Emma White led the Oilers with 55 assists and Ava Doster had 19 digs; White and Miya Ellerbrock both had 12.Saturday's loss to Ferris State (34-0) capped a historical season for the UF volleyball team, which won its first-ever league championship and earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Division II regional.Seeded sixth in the eight-team regional, UF (24-9) upended No.3-seed Hillsdale and No. 2-seed Grand Valley State to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history. MENS BASKETBALLFINDLAY 82WALSH 72NORTH CANTON – The University of Findlay erase a small halftime deficit with a big second half in beating Walsh 82-72 on Saturday in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference mens basketball game.UF trailed 34-31 at the half, but edged ahead when Jagger Landers and Anthony Johnson converted Walsh turnovers into baskets. The Oilers built that momentum into a 53-38 second-half advantage that earned them their seventh win in eight games and kept them unbeaten (2-0) in GMAC play.Findlay High grad Jake Bishop led the Oilers with a career-high 20 points. Josh Thorbahn tossed in 17 points for UF, which has a road game at Ohio Dominican Saturday. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FINDLAY 68WALSH 61NORTH CANTON – The University of Findlay and Walsh women's basketball teams went basket for basket in three of the four quarters of Saturday's Great Midwest Athletic Conference game.Findlay managed a 27-20 edge in the second period, though, and that was the difference in the Oilers' 68-61 win over the Cavs.UF and Walsh tied 13-13 in the first quarter both teams scored 14 points in both the third and fourth. Chloe Callahan's 3-pointer sparked a 6-0 second-quarter run, though, that helped the Oilers win the second period and eventually the game.Kate Ellis led UF (6-3, 1-1 GMAC) with 16 points.
