O-G downs Trojans

OTTAWA – In Friday's 38-24 loss to Elida, Ottawa-Glandorf was held to its lowest score in school history.Against Findlay on Saturday, O-G coach Tyson McGlaughlin and the Titans seemed determined to not let that ever happen again.A couple of small runs put O-G ahead in the first quarter, a couple of big runs created an 18-point lead at the half and the Titans matched their season high offensively with a 66-45 win over Findlay in the Route 224 Rivalry between the two schools.Findlay led 7-6 midway through the first quarter when Beck Garmong scored on a drive. Landon Pester answered with a 3-pointer, though, and hit another to end the first quarter and complete a 14-2 run by O-G.Jordan Schumaker's free throw and a 3-pointer and then a putback by Royce Ellerbrock upped O-G's lead to 26-11. Brody Fortman scored one basket and assisted on another and Pester knocked his third 3-pointer of the half as the margin grew to 30-15.Findlay's Blade Wendt nailed a 3 to end the half, but O-G opened the third quarter with a 13-2 surge to leave only the final margin in doubt.Ellerbrock led a deep and balanced O-G attack with 14 points. Fortman had 12, Grady Toumazos 11, Pester 10 – all in the first half – and Schumaker nine.Ottawa-Glandorf, undergoing a rebuilding cycle – like Findlay – after suffering heavy graduation losses from highly successful teams – Findlay was 21-3 and the Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division champion last season; O-G won a Western Buckeye League title, went 24-4 and made a fourth straight appearance in the state semifinals – is 3-8 after Saturday's win. The Titans host St. Marys Memorial in a WBL game on Friday, then travel to Lima Senior on Saturday.Garmong finished with 10 points and Wendt and Carter Imke scored eight each for Findlay.
