Falcons rally past Black Knights to remain unbeaten in BVC

RIVERDALE 44 VAN BUREN 40 VAN BUREN – Playing without Mariah Bonham Thursday in Van Buren, Riverdale found its unblemished Blanchard Valley Conference record in serious jeopardy. After three quarters, the Falcons trailed the Black Knights, 33-32. But in the fourth quarter, Marissa Bonham – Mariah's younger sister – helped push Riverdale to a 44-40 win. Marissa Bonham converted 5 of 7 free throw attempts in the final eight minutes, and scored seven of her team-high 17 points. She also added six rebounds as the Falcons improved to 14-4 overall, 8-0 in the BVC. Riverdale outscored Van Buren 12-7 in the final period. It got big performances from Kinsey Shull, who finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, and from Lauren McBride, who ended with nine points and nine boards. Van Buren – even without standout player Brooklyn Wilkin – gave the Falcons all they could handle. The Black Knights made 8 of 16 3-pointers, and were led in scoring by Gracie Webster and Bailey Lance who each scored nine points, and by Lilli Wilson, who had eight. Savannah Knueven was the Rockets top scorer, putting up 15 points and P-G jumped to a 12-4 lead after one quarter, then removed doubt with a 15-8 surge in the third quarter. Maddie Rutschilling had 10 rebounds to go with six points, as the Rockets controlled the glass by a 39-28 margin. Bristol Evans added 12 points and five steals for Elmwood, which improved to 5-11. Selina Deal recorded 10 points and five assists for the Royals. The Rams led the Blue Devils 26-18 at the half, only to see Carey rally, With 1:15 left in regulation Carey's Rachel Reinhart drained a 3, giving the Blue Devils a 50-48 lead. A layup by the Rams' tied the game. Then, with 4.8 seconds left on the clock, Walton was fouled, and went to the line for two free throws. Walton – who 4 of 5 from the stripe before the final attempts – knocked down both. The Rams won, 52-50. Addy Newman scored 16 for Upper Sandusky, which improved to 10-7, 6-5 in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference. Bryn Cundiff added nine points for the Rams. NORTHERN 61 RIDGEDALE 27 MORRAL – Hardin Northern had four players score in double figures Thursday as it pounded Ridgedale, 61-27. Baylie Bacon scored 15 points to lead the Polar Bears. Addi Bacon and Heidi Trachsel each contributed 13 points, while Catherine Overs had 10. W-G 47 C-R 39 WAYNESFIELD –Tatelyn Faraglia poured in 23 points, and Waynesfield-Goshen improved to 11-6, 4-1 in the Northwest Central Conference with a 47-39 win over visiting Cory-Rawson. Raegan Hutchison added 10 points for the Tigers. Cory-Rawson (5-10, 2-3 NWCC) was paced by Morgan McVetta, who had 14 points. COL. GROVE 52 SPENCERVILLE 33 SPENCERVILLE –Lauren Auchmuty put in 24 points, and Columbus Grove clinched the outright Northwest Conference title – it's first since 2019-20 – with a 52-33 win over Spencerville. Nicole Nesby added 16 points for the Bulldogs (17-2), while Clara Goecke paced the Bearcats with 11 points. O-G 55 BATH 41 LIMA – Ottawa-Glandorf found itself in an unfamiliar position at halftime of its game at Lima Bath Thursday. The Titans trailed the Wildcats, 24-22. But the Titans, undefeated this season, got things turned around after the break. Karsyn Erford scored 18 points, and Ottawa-Glandorf outscored Bath 20-7 in the third quarter, on its way to a 55-41 win. The Titans improved to 15-0, 7-0 in the WBL. The Wildcats received 11 points from Faith Clark in dropping to 5-12, 4-3 in the WBL.
