2024 BVHS DAISY Award winners

FINDLAY — Blanchard Valley Health System partnered with the DAISY Foundation in 2023 to honor nurses providing exceptional care. The international recognition program honors nurses who have made a special difference in patient's lives. Since BVHS implemented this program, the community has gone above and beyond in recognizing the nurses who impacted their lives. A BVHS Daisy committee has reviewed on average more than 25 monthly nominations throughout 2024. Anyone may nominate nurses, including family members, patients or coworkers. "Our monthly awards ceremony is a surprise each time to the nurse who wins, and almost every time, there are tears," Hastings said in the release. "You can see the excitement as soon as we show up at the nurses' station, and the other nurses quickly congratulate the winner." The winners from 2024 include: January: Megan Smith, RN, at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center. February: Deloris Webster, RN, registered nurse in the cardiac care unit (CCU) at Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH).March: Chloe Parker, RN, registered nurse in the Labor and Delivery Unit at BVH.April: Jennifer Loera, RN, oversees the Maternal Opiate Medical Support (MOMS) program at BVHS.May: Tarcy Spoors, RN, works on the sixth floor of BVH.June: Heather Ardner, RN, coronary care unit at BVH.July: Andrea Boehm, RN, works in the maternity unit at BVH.August: Birchaven Village nurses Michelle Podach RN/ADON, Diane Hernandez LPN, Abby Smith RN, and Laura Eden RN.September: Annette Elliott, RN, medical oncology.October: Special Care Nursery at Blanchard Valley Hospital nurses Holly Goodwin RN, Erica Wallen RN, Megan Clouse RN, Lisa Gerwin RN, Shauna Pessel RN, Karrie Savage RN, Maggie Schroeder RN, Jodi Morman RN, and Jadin Callaway RN.November: Jamie Robinette, RN, medical/surgical department at Bluffton Hospital.December: Betty Johnson, RN, orthopedic/neurology unit at Blanchard Valley Hospital. The DAISY award honors the late Patrick Barnes, who was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia) at age 33 in 1999. Throughout the eight weeks, Barnes was hospitalized, his family was moved by the kindness and compassion of his nurses. After his death, his family created the award to honor him. "It has been so meaningful to see how much our nurses mean to their patients," said Erin Hastings, RN, chair of the Nursing Congress in a release by Blanchard Valley Health Systems. "It's not just that BVHS nurses demonstrate their skills in nursing. They also care deeply and connect with their patients as people. It's these connections that we see recognized in DAISY nominations." Community members are encouraged to nominate a BVHS nurse. Any nurse at a BVHS facility or location is eligible.
