Feighner appointed city law director

FINDLAY — The Hancock County Republican Party followed the mayor's lead, appointing attorney Robert Feighner Jr. as city law director. Hancock GOP's Central Committee met Monday to make the appointment. Feighner was the only candidate to complete the party's screening requirements. Another contender dropped out of the process. "Our screening process is designed to fully vet our candidates. We want the Republicans of Hancock County to rest assured that those we appoint or support do embody the values and principles of the Republican Party," said KC Allen, chairman of the Central Committee and head of the local party. "Mr. Feighner enthusiastically performed all that was asked of him. He answered a lengthy questionnaire and met with the committee for follow-up, then engaged the central and executive committees and their Q&As before the vote. He was thoroughly vetted and we are grateful for his participation." Feighner was appointed acting law director by Mayor Christina Muryn in January, after the retirement of longtime city Law Director Don Rasmussen. The unexpired term will appear on the November ballot, with the newly-elected law director taking office on Jan. 1. The term expires on Dec. 31, 2027. Findlay's law director serves a four-year term. The law director's salary is based on the city's pay scale, which factors in years of service. Rasmussen's salary had been set at $149,319 for this year. Rasmussen worked for more than 40 years for the city. Feighner's salary will be reported once it is provided by the city. Findlay's law director acts as the primary legal advisor to the city government and represents the city's elected officials, administrative officials and employees in matters related to city business. The law director drafts and reviews legislation, governmental policies and procedures, and a variety of other city documents, and oversees an office of four city prosecutors/assistant law directors. Feighner earned his bachelor's degree in preparatory education from Bowling Green State University in 1996, and his law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1999. He has worked as an assistant law director for the city of Findlay since 2000. He also serves as village solicitor for Jenera, Rawson and Bluffton. He is a member of the Findlay-Hancock County Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Knights of Columbus, Findlay Elks Lodge, VFW Post 9231 and Findlay Skeet Club.
