Morey Avenue bridge to be replaced

FINDLAY — The Hancock County commissioners voted Thursday to contract to replace a bridge on Morey Avenue later this year. The $689,000 contract was awarded to Great Lakes Demolition Co., of Clyde. The state will pay for all but $31,000 of the cost. The bridge, located between Davis Street and Swing Avenue, will be replaced by December, County Engineer Douglas Cade said. The bridge extends over Howard Run. Separately, the commissioners approved resolutions authorizing Cade to buy asphalt concrete and aggregate stone for county road improvements in the coming year. The legislation gives Cade discretion to choose from whom the Engineer's Office purchases the materials. Cade said he spreads the purchases around, using a competitively-priced vendor in the part of the county where the road improvements are being made. Separately, the commissioners authorized Cade to buy fuel for County Engineer's office vehicles for the coming year. Cade said the vendor that is chosen is based on the competitiveness of their gas and diesel prices on the day of the purchase.
