Findlay's Bruni, Klotz finish second at sectional

OREGON – Kellan Bruni and Kegan Klotz were tournament runner-ups and three other Findlay High wrestlers placed third in the Division I sectional competition held at Oregon Clay on Saturday.Klotz, 22-2 on the season, pinned Toledo Start's Marshawn Barry in the quarterfinals, then avenged last week's loss to Perrysburg's Joe Foels in the Northern Lakes League tournament by posting a 4-3 decision in the semifinals.In the 175-pound championship round, Klotz had to take a medical forfeit loss to No. 5-ranked Logan Morehouse of Toledo St. John's.Bruni opened with two tech fall wins. He advanced to final when Anthony Wayne's Tyler Henderly took a medical forfeit, but Bruni had to take a medical forfeit as well in the final against Perrysburg's Brody Bauman.Will Jolliff (120), Luke Smith (150) and Landon Echelberry (215) placed third to lock down a top four placing that earned wrestlers in each weight class advancement to the Division I district tournament in Perrysburg.Echelberry had four pins in his five matches, including one in 2:59 against Clay's Jacob Purtee in the match for third and fourth place. Jolliff pinned Carson Streans of Toledo St. John's in 1:47 of his consolation final, and Smith had two pins and a major decision win before beating Sylvania Southview's James Cevizian 10-3.Findlay's Caleb Kanney (165) was fifth and Kaliber Brubaker (126) was sixth. DIVISION IIFostoria's Anthony Kleinmark and Upper Sandusky's Ethan Lewis won weight class championships in Division II sectional wrestling meets on Saturday.Kleinmark won the 150-pound title in the Division II sectional at Clyde. Lewis was the 157 champion at Galion.Advancing to this week's Division II district at Norwalk with top four placings were Fostoria's Trenton Kirby (2nd, 285), Xavier Wilmarth (3rd, 190), Silas Raney (4th, 175), Barrett Hernandez (138) and Hulett North (4th, 120).Upper Sandusky wrestlers advancing from the Galion sectional included Braylon Shepard (2nd, 106), Graham Wolf (4th, 113) and Abraham Baldwin (4th, 126). DIVISON IIIVAN BUREN – Bluffton won the first four weight class titles and had five champions overall in winning the Division III sectional wrestling meet held at Van Buren on Saturday.Bluffton finished with 175.5 points and held off Mohawk (166) for the sectional team championship. Columbus Grove was third (136), Carey fourth (132) and Elmwood and Patrick Henry (119.5) tied for fifth among the 17 teams in the sectional field.Back-yard rivals Bluffton and Cory-Rawson went head-to-head in the first three championship matches and Bluffton swept all three. Ronald Kaufman decisioned Cory-Rawson's Hayden Walters 12-6 in the 106-pound final, Alex Nance scored an 11-3 major decision over Zyven Smith at 113, and Branden Cross had a 17-1 tech fall victory over Jaiden Smith at 120.Hephaestion Weyer made it four in a row with a 16-1 tech fall win over Arcadia's Kelan Derck at 126, and Mason Shank took the final match, pinning Tiffin Calvert's Cameron Bagent in 3:04 at 285.Riverdale freshman Grady Phelps defeated Liberty-Benton's Will Pask 10-1 in the 132 final, Elmwood's Peyton Schafer won the 144 title with a 2:54 pin over Mohawk's Liam Pursell, and Carey's Jordan Hertel earned a 10-1 decision over Arcadia's Kale Price in the 150 final.Van Buren's Drew Phillips was the 165 champion with a close 5-3 decision over Elmwood's Connor Sterling.Hopewell-Loudon's Isaiah Hook was first at 157 and Wyatt Crow was second at 215.
