Canton South holds off L-B girls in regional semi

CANTON SOUTH 39L-BENTON 26ELYRIA – Canton South outscored Liberty-Benton 13-8 in the first quarter and 13-6 in the fourth in outlasting the Eagles 39-26 in a Division V girls regional semifinal game play at Elyria Catholic Coliseum on Tuesday.The Wildcats jumped out to a 13-3 start, before the Eagles went on a 5-0 run to end the first quarter. The Wildcats were up 18-12 at the half, and 26-20 after three. L-B cut the lead to just one point, down 26-25, before Canton South pulled away for the victory. Canton South senior Doriana Hastings-Peterson scored 10 of the Wildcats' 13 fourth-quarter points and led all scorers with 21. The Wildcats (18-7) advance to face Creston-Norwayne (23-3) in Friday's regional final.Corra Dehart paced Liberty-Benton with 14 points and Megan Gerken added five. COLLEGE WRESTLING Touhalisky qualifies WESTERVILLE – Findlay High graduate Rylee Touhalisky, a freshman at Otterbein University, went 2-2 and placed fourth in her weight division to qualify for the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC).Touhalisky placed fourth in the 110-pound competition at the NCWWC Region 4 Championships held in Tiffin.
