FHS boys lacrosse to open season today

Findlay High's boys lacrosse team opens its season today in Marysville.The Trojans, in their fifth season as a program, are coming off an 8-9 season in 2024, where they were 3-3 in Northern Lakes League contests.The eight wins were the most in a single season for Findlay.Findlay brings back Will Hammer, a junior who scored 11 goals and added 29 assists a season ago. It also has senior Nathan Marchal, who delivered 27 goals in 2024 and senior Ben Mueller, who recorded 19 goals, among others.The game with Marysville will start at 7 p.m. The Trojans first four games of the season will be on the road, before they make their Donnell Stadium debut April 1 against Sylvania Southview. UF BASEBALL/SOFTBALL AT HOMEThe University of Findlay softball team-- which has opened the season with an impressive 15-5 mark -- and has won three straight games -- will host Tiffin University in a doubleheader today.The team has been led by junior infielder Annika Bredel, who is hitting .410 and has slugged three home runs. She's already driven in 17 runs.The Oilers also have some local players on the team, including Liberty-Benton graduate and senior outfielder Cassie Warner, who has appeared in 13 games this season, and Upper Sandusky grad Brooke Swavel, who has appeared in eight.The first game of the double dip will begin at 2 p.m. at Marathon Diamonds.The UF baseball team also is at home this weekend, with four games against Cedarville.The Oilers enter today's doubleheader with an 8-9 record.Findlay's Casey Maruniak, a junior outfielder, is off to a sizzling start for the Oilers, with a team-best five homers, 20 runs batted in and a .349 batting average. UF's Keelan Daniel, another junior outfielder, has a .353 average, with 13 runs scored and 12 stolen bases.The Oilers also have Kaden Holman, a star player at Upper Sandusky who has pitched four games this season.Coming out of the Oilers bullpen, Holman has allowed three runs in 8 1/3 innings while striking out three.The first game of today's doubleheader with Cedarville will be at 1 p.m. at Marathon Diamonds.
