2 arrested after high speed chase near Mount Cory

MOUNT CORY — A Belle Center man and a Lima man were arrested after the Hancock County Sheriff's Office was called about suspicious persons walking and arguing in a field in the 11,000 block of Township Road 122 in Mount Cory early Wednesday. The sheriff's office reported that Brandon Johns, 37, of Belle Center, was charged with failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer. He also has an outstanding arrest warrant out of Logan County. Timothy Werling, 35, of Lima, was charged for having an outstanding arrest warrant out of Allen County. During the investigation, deputies located suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, and copper wire that was believed to have been stolen. Additional charges are expected at the end of the investigation, according to the sheriff's office. As deputies responded to the area about 4:30 a.m., the men fled in a black Ford Explorer. Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near U.S. 224 and Township Road 136. The vehicle failed to stop and continued to drive northbound on the township road. Deputies initiated a pursuit as the vehicle continued eastbound on Township Road 94 making a northbound turn onto County Road 139. Continuing northbound, the vehicle failed to stop at several stop signs and ended up at a residence near County Road 139 and Township Road 19 where the driver fled on foot. Two occupants remained in the vehicle and were detained by pursuing deputies. Deputies were able to observe the third occupant in a nearby field using a handheld thermal imager. With the assistance of a Findlay Police Department K9, the third subject was apprehended without incident. The pursuit lasted approximately four minutes spanning about five miles with the highest speed being 107 mph. No injuries were reported. Also assisting at the scene were Findlay Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
