FHS girls lacrosse team tops Lima Senior, 10-5

FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;10 LIMA SENIOR 5 FINDLAY – Findlay High's girls lacrosse roster has more than doubled since last season. With the number of players and letter winners back for first-year head coach Stefan Adams, odds are expectations are on the rise as well. "Last year I think they had, like, 16 players," Adams said Wednesday. "This year we have 41. We're still learning, but we have got a lot of kids out, and a lot of depth." Findlay's depth and balance came in handy on Wednesday when the Trojans posted their first win of the 2025 season, beating Lima Senior 10-5. Mihaya Saito, who was Findlay's second-leading scorer last season, led the Trojans with four goals on Wednesday. Six other FHS players also found the back of the net. Ella Breiholz, a senior attackman who scored a team-high 34 goals a year ago, had one of those six goals, with Allison Brock, Noah Tesner, Josilyn Hunt, Ellie Beining and Greta Zaciewski scoring as well. Brynne Fletcher, a sophomore goalie, led Findlay's defensive effort with 14 saves. The Trojans, 3-14 in 2024 but off to a 1-1 start this season, are back on the field on Friday for a game at Toledo Notre Dame. BASEBALL L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;14 ADA &emsp;&emsp;0 FINDLAY – Liberty-Benton's Conner Hiss, a senior right-hander, threw a five-inning no-hitter, drove in three runs and scored twice in the Eagles 14-0 win over Ada in Wednesday's Blanchard Valley Conference baseball opener for both teams. Hiss struck out nine and walked one in the five-inning contest. Reid Irwin drove in four runs for L-B (3-0, 1-0 BVC), which scored 10 runs in the top of the second inning. Lieb (1B, 2B) and Zach Elchert (2-1B, RBI) had two hits each and Kooper Leatherman had an RBI double. Ada dropped to 1-2 with the loss. H-LOUDON &emsp;&emsp;10 GIBSONBURG 2 GIBSONBURG – Cohen Sendelbach and Kellen Frankart rapped three hits each in leading Hopewell-Loudon to a 10-2 baseball win over Gibsonburg. Sendelbach had two doubles and a single and Frankart had three base hits. Brayden and Brody Brickman added two hits each for the Chieftains (4-0), who broke things open with a five-run rally in the third inning. Frankart also earned the pitching win with a complete-game effort, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out nine. SOFTBALL L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;7 ADA &emsp;&emsp;3 FINDLAY – Liberty-Benton used a four-run third inning as a springboard to a 7-3 win over Ada in the Blanchard Valley Conference softball opener for both teams on Wednesday. L-B pitchers Reagan Knapke and Megan Gerken combined on a four-hitter with seven total strikeouts. Offensively, Kylie Steinman went 4-for-4 with a double and three singles, scored two runs and drove in two. Lauren Erdeljac had a single and a solo home run and Izzy Jolliff had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles (5-1, 1-0 BVC), who have outscored their opponents 53-17 in rattling off five straight wins. Emily Shanks had a pair of base hits for Ada (1-2, 0-1 BVC). Tennis champs ORLANDO – Ottawa's Leslie Stechschulte teamed with University of Findlay graduate and local attorney Abby Wilson to win the USTA NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) 18-and-over 3.5 women's doubles national championship in Orlando, Fla. over the weekend. Stechschulte and Wilson, who play out of the Findlay Y Tennis Center, defeated Australia's Susan Lee and New Jersey's Geri Arnell in the finals of the event.
