Early big innings lead Van Buren past Arlington

VAN BUREN 20ARLINGTON 6ARLINGTON – Van Buren scored 13 runs in the first two innings and remained tied for first place in the Blanchard Valley Conference softball standings with Monday's 20-6 romp over Arlington.The meat of Van Buren's lineup did a ton of damage.Aubrey Riegel, a sophomore playing first base and batting third, belted a home run, singled, drove in three runs and scored twice. Winning pitcher Megan Stall had a single, double and an RBI in the clean-up spot, No. 5 hitter Ava DeCooman drove in two runs and scored three, and junior third baseman Morgan Walter and two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.A couple of freshmen – second baseman Avery Beall and center fielder Haidyn Sattler – had three hits each, with Beall plating three runs and Sattler two.Stall limited nine of Arlington's 10 batters to a total of three hits. No one could retire Lexi Grieser on this night, though, as the sophomore centerfielder went 3-for-3with a triple and two home runs, driving in four of Arlington's four runs.Van Buren improved to 4-2 overall and remained tied with Liberty-Benton and Elmwood atop the BVC standings. BLANCHARD – Colonel Crawford's six-run rally in the fifth inning was the big difference in an error-filled back-and-forth game on Monday when the Eagles outlasted Riverdale 15-8.Colonel Crawford's Rylie Hoepf had a single, double and triple and Peyton Rowlinson (2-1B, 2B) and Emma Strausbaugh (3-1B, 3 RBI) also had three hits for Colonel Crawford.
