Findlay's offense struggles in loss to Generals

AN. WAYNE 10FINDLAY 0FINDLAY – As the weather gets warmer, Findlay High's bats seem to be cooling off.Findlay averaged 7.5 runs a game in getting off to a 4-0 start to the 2025 season. On Friday, though, the Trojans' bats were quieted again in a 10-0 Northern Lakes League loss to Anthony Wayne.Findlay's struggles at the plate, which include a two-hit 1-0 loss to Fremont Ross on Thursday and a four-hit 3-2 loss at Anthony Wayne on Wednesday, have a direct link to who the Trojans are facing. That was especially true when Anthony Wayne coach Ryan Donley, who this season returns a veteran corps of players who reached the Division I state semifinals in 2023 and went 21-9 last season, sent Owen Graf to the mound for Friday's Buckeye Division game at Woody Curlis Field.A 6-foot-3 right-hander with a fastball cocked at over 90 miles-per-hour, Graf pitched a one-hit shutout. The Ohio State recruit struck out 12, did not walk a batter and faced the minimum 21 batters for the seven-inning game.Findlay freshman Landon Echelberry also pitched well. The right-hander threw shutout ball for four innings, but gave up a run in the fifth and three in the sixth before being relieved. Echelberry allowed four runs – three earned – and struck out nine in his 5-2/3 innings on the hill.Anthony Wayne broke it open with six runs in the sixth inning and tacked on three more in the seventh. First baseman Cole Biedenharn, second baseman Mason Dzierwa, shortstop Lucas Potkanowicz and third baseman Max Crandall (2 RBI) – all senior lettermen – all had two hits for the Generals, who won their fourth straight to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NLL Buckeye Division.Jackson Fletchner, a sophomore outfielder, had the lone base hit for Findlay (4-3), which will travel to Tinora today to face St. Henry at 2 p.m. and the host Rams at 4 p.m. in a three-team rotation of games.An. MILLER CITY 24BLUFFTON 1MILLER CITY – Miller City answered Bluffton's small rally in the top of the first with a monstrous rally in the bottom of the inning and went to beat the Pirate 24-1 in a nonleague baseball matchup.Bluffton pushed across a run in the top of the first. But Miller City batted around twice, scored 14 runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. The Wildcats, who drilled eight doubles among their 14 hits while also capitalizing on 12 walks, added eight runs in the third inning in chalking up their seventh win in eight games and improving to 9-2 overall.Jonathon Pester led Miller City's attack, going 4-for-5 with two singles, two doubles and driving in three runs. Brendan Barlage (1B, 2B), Max Long (2B), Henry Rump (2B), and Will Otto also drove in three runs.Nathan Speicher and Quinn Eachus had doubles for Bluffton. THURSDAY CAREY 8LEIPSIC 3CAREY – Three-run home runs by AJ Wynkoop and Dash Puckett powered Carey to an 8-3 baseball win over Leipsic.Kasen Sherman had two hits for Carey, which won its second straight game to improve to 7-5. Leipsic had a three-game win streak snapped and fell to 7-4.
