Perrysburg slips past Trojans, creating logjam at top of NLL

BOYS LACROSSEPERRYSBURG 9FINDLAY 8Findlay had an opportunity to clinch a share of the Northern Lakes League title Thursday night.But Mitchell McKay and Perrysburg kept that from happening.McKay scored four goals -- including the Yellow Jackets' final one with 10:55 remaining -- and Perrysburg edged the Trojans 9-8.Nathan Marchal had three goals for Findlay, while Dante Coffman and Will Hammer added two each. Ben Mueller scored a goal and added two assists, while Connor Doe also had an assist.Jude Brasfield made five saves in goal for the Trojans, while Giffin Lane won 12 of 19 faceoffs.Findlay dropped to 10-5, 4-1 in the NLL.With the Trojans loss, Findlay, Anthony Wayne and the Yellow Jackets are all 4-1 in league games. Each team has one league game remaining. Findlay will host Buckeye Valley in a nonconference game at 11 a.m. Saturday. FHS travels to Bowling Green for an NLL game Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., which will complete the regular season. Findlay hitters backed him with 11 hits, all singles. Blade Wendt, Jacob Gebhardt, Landon Echelberry and Jack Rhoades -- the first four batters in the Trojans lineup -- had two hits each. OTCA TENNIS TOURNAMENTFindlay's Sam Swisher and Jonathan Wright won a doubles match Thursday against St. Francis in the second round of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Tournament.But that was the Trojans' only victory in a 3-1 loss to the Knights.One of the matches, the second singles contest between Findlay's Owen Vick and St. Francis' Owen Little, was not completed due to the teams' match being decided. Vick won the first set 6-4, and Little won the second 6-4.At third singles, the Knights' Chase Little topped Findlay's John Dornbush, 6-1, 6-3. At first singles, St. Francis' Nick Miller got past Luke Williams, 6-1, 6-2.In the second doubles match, the Knights' Hugh Wagoner and Reece Mutchler defeated Findlay's Cohen Perkins and Owen Metz, 6-2, 6-2.The Trojans will be back in action tonight at Toledo Central Catholic. NLL TENNISPERRYSBURG --In the Northern Lakes League's Buckeye Division, the tennis standings showed two teams clearly above the others.Anthony Wayne went 10-0 during the conference slate, while Findlay finished 9-1, with its one loss coming to the generals.No other NLL Buckeye Division team had fewer than five conference losses.In this week's NLL Tournament, Anthony Wayne agains showed itself as the top team. The Generals had five first-place finishes at the tournament. Findlay had four second place finishes and one third place finish.The Trojans' Sam Swisher reached the first singles finals before falling to Anthony Wayne's Brody Sutto in the championship match, 6-3, 6-2.At second singles, Luke Williams won his first match, then lost in the finals to the Generals' Reed Hahn, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Findlay's third singles player, Owen Vick, won his first match before being upended in the finals by Anthony Wayne's Will Black, 6-0, 6-1.In doubles play, FHS' No. 1 doubles team of Owen Metz and Jonathan Wright won it's first match before falling to a AW duoAt second doubles, Findlay's Jon Dornbush and Cohen Perkins took third place.The Trojans will play in the district tournament, in Findlay, next Thursday and Saturday. COLLEGE SOFTBALLUNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich -- The University of Findlay softball team fell behind early in its Division II regional opener with Drury.The Oilers rallied, but lost to the Panthers, 11-7.Findlay will play Ferris State today back on the campus of Saginaw State University to keep its season alive. That game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.In Thursday's game, Drury scored two runs in the top of the second and five runs in the third, and was up 8-0.But the Trojans came back with two runs in the third and five more in the fourth to trim the deficit to 8-7.Kayla Dykin clubbed a two-run homer to put the Oilers on the board in the third, and Annika Bredel connected on a two-run single in the five run fourth for the Oilers.But in the fifth, a three-run blast by Landry Cochran put the Panthers back up by four runs, and they held on from there.Alexys Antal took the loss for the Oilers, allowing three runs over two innings.The Oilers committed three errors in the loss. COLLEGE BASEBALLMASON -- The University of Findlay's baseball team was ousted from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, as it was doubled up by Tiffin University, 14-7.The Oilers lost their tournament opener Wednesday, 12-2, to Hillsdale.Findlay went into the ninth inning of Thursday's game trailing the Dragons 14-2, but scored five runs before TU recorded the final out.Luke Senften hit a solo homer for the Oilers in the ninth, and Austin Adelman followed with a three-run shot.UF's record moved to 24-27.
