Findlay boys lacrosse routs BG, claims share of league crown

LACROSSE FINDLAY 14B. GREEN 4BOWLING GREEN – Findlay High's boys lacrosse program, in its fourth year as a varsity sanctioned sport, achieved its first league championship on Tuesday when the Trojans used dominating second and third periods to beat Bowling Green 14-4.Now 12-5 overall, Findlay finished 5-1 in Northern Lakes League play. Anthony Wayne and Perrysburg also went 5-1 in NLL matches.Findlay led Bowling Green just 2-0 after the first period, but boosted its lead to 12-3 with five-goal bursts in both the second and third periods.Nathan Marchal, Findlay's leading scorer on the season, scored six goals – including No. 100 for his career – and added an assist. Cam Wight and MJ Greenawalt both had three goals and Tate Sprague and Ben Mueller added one each.Cole Kirian led the Trojans with four assists and Will Hammer had three. Wight, Marchal, Griffin Lane, who was 10-of-21 in face-offs, and goalie Jude Brasfield added one assist each.Brasfield and Cashel West split time in goal, with Brasfield making six saves and West three.Findlay next heads south on Monday when the Trojans will face Delaware Hayes in the first round of the OHSAA playoffs. HENRY 3FINDLAY – Findlay High's baseball team won its seventh straight game on Tuesday … and once again tested its crunch-time nerves in the process.Findlay scored four runs in the first inning, then survived a St. Henry comeback in the seventh and got a game-ending strikeout by Luke Crates in beating St. Henry 4-3 in a nonleague game at Woody Curlis Field.It was Findlay's third one-run victory during the current seven-game winning streak. Six of the seven games have been decided by three runs or less; three of the seven have been decided by pitching, clutch defense or the ability to scratch out a run in the seventh inning.Jack Rhoades had two hits, scored a run and drove in another. Crates had a single and a double, and a key save.Cole Hull started and went 6-2/3 innings for the win. Addelyn Sprang had a pair of RBI singles and Annabelle Cooper a two-run double.Bri Skadsheim, the winning pitcher in relief, singled and delivered a two-run double for Clay (16-5).
