Area baseball teams play in district semis today

The weather hasn't been red hot but Findlay High's baseball team has, and the Trojans will take an 11-game winning streak to Brunswick today when the No. 10-seeded Trojans face the ninth-seeded Blue Devils in a Division I OHSAA tournament game.Outstanding pitching has been at the heart of Findlay's late-season success. Over that 11-game winning streak, FHS pitchers have thrown five shutouts, including Tuesday's 10-0 win over Springfield, and allowed a total of just seven runs.Findlay enters the game with an 18-7 record; Brunswick, riding a smaller three-game win streak of its own, is 17-8.The winner of today's matchup will advance to Friday's district finals to face either No. 1-seeded Massillon Jackson or Toledo Whitmer.A number of other teams prepped for tournament play with games on Tuesday. Van Buren continued a streak of its own, winning its ninth straight by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth inning and beating Lake 4-0 in a completion of a suspended game. And in a Blanchard Valley Conference contest, Leipsic beat McComb 8-1.In today's tournament games, Upper Sandusky (16-4) plays Van Wert at Fort Jennings and Ottawa-Glandorf (11-9) and Lake (18-6) square off in the second game at Archbold in a pair of Division IV matchups.Two Division VI district semifinals will be played at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, with Van Buren (24-2) and Lakota (14-10) battling at 2 p.m. and Hopewell-Loudon (21-6) and Elmwood (18-8) squaring off at 4:30 p.m. Columbus Grove (16-10) and Marion Local (15-7) meet in another Division VI tournament game at Coldwater.Baseball tournament play continues on Thursday, and Bluffton University will be hosting one of the premier Division V districts in Ohio with all four teams being state–ranked. Liberty-Benton, 21-4 and ranked No. 6 in the final coaches polls, plays No. 3-ranked Edison (23-3) in the opener, with No. 2 Coldwater and No. 11 Oak Harbor clashing in the second game.Findlay High will host a Division VII district, with McComb (11-4) and Hardin Northern (17-6-1) meeting in the first game and Arcadia (8-15) and New Riegel (14-11) squaring off in the second.It will be an all-Putnam County League district at Patrick Henry where Leipsic (18-11) plays Miller City (21-4) in Thursday's opener and Kalida (16-8) goes up against Fort Jennings (14-8) in game two.
