Habitat dedicates new homes on Bishop Lane

FINDLAY — In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Habitat for Humanity of Findlay dedicated three new homes in the 1700 block of Bishop Lane Tuesday afternoon. The new homes were built in just 10 weeks by 600 volunteers and were built for the homeowners to be able to "age in place," said Kelly Croy, Habitat for Humanity board president. Each home is ADA-adaptable and were the third, fourth and fifth of 20 houses that will be built in the Krystal Ridge addition, an expansion that is set to be completed by December 2027. Kara Summers and her two children will live in house No. 62. For a while, Summers said her family was struggling to find affordable housing. Summers remembers encountering a newspaper article about Habitat for Humanity and said she was looking forward to the stability a new house would bring. "They have taken a chance on me," she said in a release. They have seen something in me that I didn't even see in myself." House No. 63 will be owned by Amanda Gault, who for many years has been living with her parents. With a young daughter, Gault hoped to give her family a safe place to call home. After receiving her key, she reported she would be looking forward to starting new traditions in her new home. No. 64 will be owned by Chris Greiner, who has been a lifelong resident of Findlay and was told in a text message by a landlord that her rent would double, making it too expensive. After accepting her key, she said she "wasn't sure they'd pick a single lady," but was assured that it didn't matter what a "family" looked like. Greiner is grateful not to have to move again and is excited to have a home for her children and grandchildren to visit.
