Lima Locos rally late to beat Sluggers, 7-4

FINDLAY – The Flag City Sluggers appeared ready to chalk up their first-ever win on Wednesday. The Lima Locos had other ideas, though, rallying to tie the game in the top of the eighth inning and scoring three times in the ninth to post a 7-4 win in a Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League game at Fifth Third Field. Flag City led 4-0 early in the game. Jaxon Brown drew a bases-loaded walk to force in one run in the bottom of the first inning, and Brett Reed singled in one run and Tanner Powell drove in two more in the second. Flag City still led 4-2 after seven but Lima tied it on David Falloon's double, a ground out and a sacrifice fly. The Locos, who won a 14-10 slugfest with Flag City on Tuesday, then used two base hits, a beaned batter, an error and a ground rule double by Cole Crafton to pull away in the ninth. The Sluggers were the team that rallied late in Tuesday's opener of the three-game series. Harrison Engskov had three singles and a double, scored three runs and drove in three in that game. Powell had three base hits and drove in two runs for Flag City, which scored five runs in the eighth and ninth innings but could not overcome a 14-5 built in part on a six-run seventh-inning rally sparked by Brayden Kersey's two-run home run. Findlay High grad Ben Best pitched the final two innings, giving up no runs and no hits while striking out four of the six batters he faced. Flag City (0-5) and Lima (5-0) will conclude their three-game series today in a 7:05 game at Fifth Third Field. (14-sub head) Soccer club advances TOLEDO – The Greater Toledo Futbol Club, headed by Findlay High girls coach Mike Aubrey and with a roster that includes FHS players Emme Patey and Elynn Hawkins, captured the girls regional tournament over the weekend. The win qualifies the team for the national tournament in July. (14-sub head) Hunt gets hole-in-one FINDLAY – Joslyn Hunt, a 2024 Van Buren graduate and four-time state qualifier for the Black Knights girls golf team, scored a hole-in-one at Findlay's par-3 Shady Grove Golf Course on Tuesday, acing the 116-yard No. 13 hole with an 8-iron. Witnessing the shot were Adam McKinniss and Tina Hunt.
