Findlay Legion goes 1-4 in Midland

MIDLAND – Findlay's American Legion baseball team went 1-4 in the Midland Redskins Round Robin Tournament over the weekend as opposing teams used late rallies and walk-off dramatics to topple the Post 3 squad.In Friday's tournament opener, Findlay outhit the Midland Redskins 11-8 and used a five-run rally of its own to forge a 6-6 tie and force extra innings. Midland won it, though, when Cru Huenfeld belted a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth.In Sunday's first game, Findlay led Yeager-Benton Post 199 2-0 heading into the last of the seventh. Yeager-Benson got a game-tying two-run single from Xander Schneider, though, and Dylan Ruhe's sacrifice fly brought in the game-winner in another walk-off 3-2 victory.Brady Lance had an RBI double and Luke Crates had two base hits for Findlay. Caden Fritz started and went five innings, allowing just two hits.The outcome of Sunday's first game set up a rematch in game two. Luke Long had two hits, including an RBI single in the first inning. Kellen Frankart and Crates had RBI singles as well and Post 3 starter Kenyon McQueen allowed one hit through five innings as Findlay built a 4-0 lead.Yeager-Benson erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, with a two-run double by Ruhe a key blow in Post 199's 8-4 win.Findlay split its games on Saturday. Commonwealth Express 17U got a solo home run from Chase Little, but Grady Mason and Frankart (2-1B), who also got a complete game win on the mound, delivered RBI singles in Findlay's 2-1 win.Findlay then fell 5-3 to Midland Scout 17U. Mason and Fritz had two his tech for Post 3.This week, Findlay Post 3 will compete in the Prep Baseball Tournament Ohio Border Challenge, a multi-level event that includes 86 teams in six age divisions with games being played at 13 sites across Northwest Ohio.Findlay will be one of 16 teams in the 18U division. Teams will compete in pool play, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinal and final rounds.
