Sluggers push win streak to four

CELINA – The Flag City Sluggers ran their winning streak to four straight on Tuesday when they defeated the Grand Lake Mariners 6-1 in their first Great Lakes Summer College League crossover game of the season.Flag City took control with a four-spot in the top of the third inning. Harrison Engskov and Jaxon Brown delivered RBI doubles in the third. Caleb Smith's ground out and a sacrifice fly by Chris Franks plated runs as well.Engskov, an outfielder who entered the game hitting .441 with a team-leading eight runs-batted-in, doubled and scored in the fourth inning and singled and scored on a double steal in the sixth. He had three hits, Tanner Powell, hitting .524 on the season, had four, and Wil Lafferty had two. The No. 2, 3 and 4 hitters in the Flag City lineup, Lafferty, Engskov and Powell combined for nine hits, scored five runs and drove in two.The Sluggers got another strength-by-committee pitching performance with Weston Speir throwing three innings and Ryan Miezin, Aidan Murphy and Jacob Sams throwing two each. Combined, they allowed one run on five hits and struck out seven.Flag City improved to 4-6 and sits third in the GLSCL North behind the Lima Locos (7-1) and Michigan Monarchs (7-2).
