Pet portraits, snacks a part of library line up

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is offering the following programs the week of June 22-28, 2025: Join the library for a week of exciting events and activities as part of our summer reading program. Monday from 2 – 4 p.m. in our Children's Programming Room, families can drop in to play and learn together. Join the library for a Reading Games Get-Together to practice reading skills with your beginning reader. The library has a collection of games that work on early literacy skills like letter names, letters shapes and sounds. Meet us June 24 at 9 a.m. at The Family Center, 1800 North Blanchard Street for Summer Connect. Summer Connect is a series of free, family-friendly neighborhood events hosted by the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library in collaboration with Hancock Public Health and the City of Findlay Parks & Recreation. These events are designed to connect families with local resources, hands-on activities, and meaningful community engagement. Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Lindamood Room, and Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Waterfalls Pavilion at beautiful Riverside Park, Miss Nicole presents Storytime for children. This week, sing, rhyme, read, and craft while learning about the deep blue sea. Storytime is recommended for children 6 and under but all are welcome! At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Makerspace is scheduled for the Lindamood Room. This week, making games and puzzles. This program is for kids 17 and under, and we require caregivers for children under 8. On Tuesday at 4 p.m., you're invited to a virtual discussion with award- winning author and summer reading champion Katherine Applegate as she talks to viewers about her enthusiastically heartwarming novel in verse, Odder. Odder is inspired by the true story of a Monterey Bay Aquarium program that pairs orphaned otter pups with surrogate mothers. This poignant and humorous tale told in free verse examines bravery and healing through the eyes of one of nature's most beloved and charming animals. This discussion is tailored to be watched by children in grades 3-6. Register to be sent a link to join the virtual discussion at libraryc.org/findlaylibrary. This program is presented in partnership with the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. On Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Lindamood Room, it's all about the pets! Teens can join the library for our PAWsome Treats Culinary Workshop where we will create vibrant, delicious treats that your furry friends will love, using safe, & all-natural ingredients. Discover how to utilize fruits and vegetables as natural food colorings, and take home your colorful creations for your best friend. If you don't have a furry pet, that's okay. The treats you created will be delivered to the Humane Society for all of their furry friends to enjoy. Mini Meet-Up is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Early Learning Center in the Children's Department. Little ones up to 36 months can explore new games, toys and activities that are educational and fun while socializing and making new friends. Starter Storytime will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Lindamood Room. There will be a second session on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lindamood Room. Miss Nicole will lead families in singing, rhyming, reading and having fun with scarves and bells. Join the library for a special Starter Storytime at the Park on Friday at 10 a.m. Meet us at the Waterfalls Pavilion at Riverside Park for storytime fun! This program is suggested for children up to 36 months of age with a caregiver. Storytime at Arlington is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at our Arlington Branch. Children ages 6 and under can hear great stories, do crafts and fun activities, but older siblings are welcome. This week, we'll learn how letters paint stories. On Wednesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. in the Lindamood Room, come craft with us during our CrafterWork program. Adults and teens 16+ are welcome, and there is room for 20 participants. Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Lindamood Room teens are invited to mixed media mayhem. Dive into creative chaos using library materials, recycled items, and more to make unique masterpieces. At 3:30 p.m., we'll switch gears to create a low-lit, quiet environment designed to accommodate all levels of creativity and sensory needs. Crafts are tailored to be sensory-friendly, calming and engaging. Thursday at 6 p.m., Drawing Club is scheduled to take place in the Lindamood Room. This month, with inspiration from a storybook about two friends who set out on an adventure to map their neighborhood, create unique maps of our neighborhoods as we explore our sense of place. This program is sponsored by the Hancock County Farmers' Market and Connected to Nature, and is recommended for grades 2 and up. Registration is required at findlaylibrary.org/events by clicking on the event for the registration form. If you love solving puzzles, our art class escape room is perfect for you! Search the art classroom, solve the clues, and escape before time runs out! This escape room was designed with puzzles for grades 2-8, and all children must be accompanied by a caretaker. Older family members are welcome to sign up too, but it is not recommended for children under grade 2. There are three sessions on Saturday, at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and one on Sunday at 2 p.m. Registration is required at findlaylibrary.org/events.
