Hamilton outslugs Sluggers, 17-10

SATURDAY'S GAMEHAMILTON 17FLAG CITY 10FINDLAY – Hamilton used some timely hits in the first inning and Miquel Correra's bomb in the second to build an 8-0 lead that carried the Joe's to a 17-10 win over Flag City in Saturday's Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League game at Fifth Third Field.The loss ended a six-game win streak by Flag City (6-7), which traveled to Hamilton on Sunday for the rubber match of the three-game series and hits the road on Tuesday for two games against the Xenia Scouts.In Saturday's game, Hamilton's Brett Danby had a single, double and triple, drove in three runs and scored four times. Gio Melchione also had three hits on a hot, steamy night when the two clubs combined for 26 hits and 27 runs.Matt Gardner and Cameron Baker led the Sluggers with two hits each. TRACK Several locals compete at New Balance National Outdoor meetPHILADELPHIA, PA – A few local athletes made the trip to Philadelphia over the weekend to compete in the New Balance National Outdoor Championships at Franklin field.In the freshman category of girls discus, Leipsic's Sydney Apple placed 11th out of 76. The standard to qualify for NBNO to compete is 93-0. At NBNO, her best was 114-9 on her first attempt. Her second attempt was 103-6 with the third and final attempt was 114-0.Fostoria's Shia Watkins competed in the freshman girls category in shot put and discus as well. In discus, Watkins took third place out of 76, with her throw of 133-5 on her third attempt.Watkins participated in the shot put category as well and took 13th overall out of 39. She hit her mark on the third attempt with 33-7 ½.Representing Carey at NBNO was freshman Lincoln Ritter. He ran in the 110 meter hurdles and came in 54th overall out of 60 with a time of 16.68 seconds. The standard qualifying time for NBNO is 16.10.Findlay's Adrian Stechschulte ran in the Champions category of the one mile, and placed 123rd out of 142, with a time of 4:26.22 .Ottawa-Glandorf had two of the events represented at NBNO. The first was in the Champion Boys one mile with Ty Rosengarten. He placed 76th overall, and had a time of 4:18.33. Rosengarten was also a member of the unseeded 4x800 relay team that the Titans brought to the competition. The remaining members are Mason Vogt, Ethan Metzger, and Wyatt Croy. They placed 76th out of 81 teams, with a time of 8:21.23. Upper Sandusky's Ashton Clark finished in the freshman category of pole vault in 16th place at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championships Saturday. Clark originally qualified in the regular season to compete in pole vault for New Balance, but his PR of 13-6 from regionals surpassed the initial 12-0 qualifying standard. Clark cleared the 12-5 ½ mark, but couldn't clear the 12-11 ½ mark after three failed attempts.
