Fireworks to light up area skies

Celebrate the Fourth of July at one of the many fireworks displays throughout the area. Findlay FINDLAY — A 5K race, car show and concert — along with a colorful fireworks display — will be some of the highlights of Findlay's July 4th Spectacular Fireworks & Fun, held from noon to 10 p.m. July 3 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. The spectacular is presented by the Hancock County Agricultural Society. Admission and parking are free along with many of he children's activities. For hungry visitors, there will be seven vendors on-site throughout the day. Schedule of events: 9 a.m. — July 4 Spectacular 5K Noon-4 p.m. — Car show, participants sign up day-of the event, $10 entries Noon-8 p.m. — Kids Zone with free pony rides, train rides and bounce houses. 6:30 p.m. — Beer garden opens 7:30 p.m. — Concert featuring Wastin' Neon Dusk — Fireworks The Flag City 4th of July parade begins at 11 a.m. July 4. The Hancock Historical Museum, 422 W. Sandusky St., will host a ice cream social from noon to 2 p.m. Dietsch Brothers fine chocolates and ice cream scoops will be available to purchase for $2, while ice cream bars are $2, and root beer floats are $3. Commemorative mugs will be sold for $5. Add a root beer float to it for $7. There will also be a silent book auction and sale to support the Liberty Tree planting at the Little Red Schoolhouse, put on by the John Hancock Chapter of the Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution. Other area parades and fireworks include: Arcadia ARCADIA — The village of Arcadia will host its seven annual Breyman-Arcadia Fireworks Celebration on Saturday with festivities from noon to 9 p.m., culminating with a fireworks show at 10 p.m. at the community park. The fireworks are presented by the village and Ryan Breyman to honor his late father, Jim Breyman, who began this tradition years ago in the family's backyard. The event is part of a larger community celebration, Stars, Stripes and ARC Nights Block Party, hosted by the village, Arcadia Community Heart and Soul and Visit Findlay! The Jason Breyman Memorial 5K and Glow Run is slated from 9:30-11 p.m. Friday. Live music and other family-friendly activities are planned Saturday. New this year is an Ohio-Sanctioned kids pedal tractor pull for ages 4-11. The top three competitiors in each age group will advance to the state championship in August and possibly the nationals in South Dakota. Registration begins at noon with pulls starting at 1 p.m. A royalty pageant for ages 3-19 from noon to 1 p.m., bike decorating contest and parade at 5 p.m., 3-on-3 ARC Macker basketball tournament from 1-6 p.m. and kickball game are also first-time events. Old favorites include a pie-eating contest at 3 p.m., men's beard contest at 4 p.m., live music and a free concert by Arcadia Alumni AJ Knepper on the Main Street stage from 6-9 p.m. Food and ice cream trucks will be on site. There will also be kid zone activities with inflatables and a water slide, face painting and balloon animals, and games and contests for all ages. Chicken poop bingo, while the Arcadia Farmers Market and craft vendors will be located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18974 Ohio 12, all from noon to 9 p.m. The Stable will be open all day serving adult beverages. The Arcadia Lions Club concession stand will open before the fireworks. Arlington ARLINGTON — The village of Arlington will kick off the holiday from 5-10 p.m. Friday. The Arlington Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual chicken or chop BBQ dinner from 5–7 p.m. Tickets are available by sending a facebook message or calling 419-365-1340. The Bang & Boom Fireworks Show begins at dusk. The festivities are sponsored by the Arlington Lions Club and presented by the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department with assistance from dedicated community members. McComb McCOMB — Thanks to Duane Turner, who is putting on his annual display, the People of McComb's fireworks will be held at 10 p.m. July 5 at 5081 Ohio 613. There will be food, music and good times. For those wishing to watch fireworks, go to the front reservoir and look towards the railroad tracks. Fostoria FOSTORIA — The City of Fostoria will host its annual fireworks at Foundation Park on July 5. Activities kick off at 6 p.m. with a talent show for ages 5-18. There will be three different age divisions - 5-9, 10-14 and 15-18+. There will also be multiple food and miscellaneous vendors present. Ada ADA — The fifth annual Pride of Ada fireworks event is scheduled for Saturday at the Ada War Memorial Park. Food trucks start serving at 5 p.m. Activities will include bingo in shelter #1 starting at 5:30 p.m., the 50/50 Cash-Grab at 5:30 p.m. and Romick Train rides. Fireworks start at 9:45 p.m., launching from the baseball fields. Tiffin TIFFIN — Independence Day in Tiffin will be celebrebrated with food, fun and fireworks on July 4 at Hedges-Boyer Park, 491 Coe St. Events start at 9 a.m. with fireworks planned around 10 p.m. Food vendors will be at the park all day. Bowling Green BOWLING GREEN — The BG Boom Festival and fireworks will take place on July 3 at the Wood County Fairgrounds, 13800 W. Poe Road. A community festival will be held before the fireworks, providing games, activities and food vendors. Ottawa OTTAWA — God and Country Night will be held July 3 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, 1490 E. 2nd St. Food trucks will be available beginning at 6 p.m. Food trucks will be on the grounds. A Celebration of America patriotic concert with the Voices of Faith begins at 9 p.m., with time to honor, thank and pray for first responders of the fire, police and EMS departments as well as veterans and active duty military. Fireworks will follow. The event is free, but donations will be accepted on behalf of OnTarget Outfitters, a local organization that uses outdoor daycamps and special events to mentor young people. Kenton KENTON — The annual Hardin County Freedom Fest fireworks display is set for 10 p.m. July 4 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds and Home Run Memorial Ball Park on Ohio 292. Earlier in the day, a parade will be held in downtown Kenton. Lineup starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Mary Lou Johnson Hardin County District Library, 325 E. Columbus St. Judging of the entries is at 9 a.m., and awards will be presented at 9:15. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. Lima LIMA — The Lima Star Spangled Spectacular will be held on July 4 at Faurot Park on South Cole Street. The event will feature a Freedom 5K run/walk starting at 9 a.m., a veterans appreciation car cruise-in from noon to 4 p.m., and fireworks at 10 p.m. The Lima Area Concert Band will perform in the park pavilion prior to the fireworks show.
