Monarchs double up Sluggers, 10-5

MONARCHS 10 SLUGGERS 5 HILLSDALE – Two-run rallies in the seventh and eighth innings gave Michigan some breathing room and the Monarchs held on to beat Flag City 10-5 on Wednesday in a Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League game at Hillsdale College.Flag City never led, but kept it close through six innings. Tanner Powell and Andrew Stechschulte reached with base hits and scored on an error and wild pitch to pull Flag City within 3-2 in the second inning.Harrison Engskov hit a solo home run, his third of the season, in the third inning, Powell had an RBI triple in the fifth and Trey Gardner doubled and scored on a passed ball in the sixth when the Sluggers trimmed the deficit to 6-5.Michigan, which broke a four-game losing skid, went up 8-5 in the seventh on an RBI double by Cannon Paul and a RBI single by Bren Wilkinson. Paul added a two-run single in the seventh after Michigan loaded the bases on a beaned batter and two walks.Powell and Stechschulte had two hits each for Flag City.
