Tax bills due Friday

FINDLAY — Hancock County second half real estate tax payments are due Friday, County Treasurer J. Steve Welton said Thursday as a reminder to taxpayers. Payments sent through the mail must have a U.S. postal cancellation of July 11 or prior to that date to be considered timely, Welton said. Welton also is making several other notes for taxpayers: • Postage machines are not an acceptable proof of mailing, he said. • Those mailing their payments near the due date should go inside the post office and get their envelope postmarked. • The county treasurer's office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the County Courthouse. • A drop box for tax payments is located inside the main entry to the courthouse and is available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. • Cash or checks are the only way payments are accepted. No credit card payments will be accepted. • The Ohio Revised Code states that failure to receive a tax bill does not allow one to avoid penalty and interest charges when paying late.
