City awarded energy efficiency grant

FINDLAY — The city of Findlay has been successful in its bid for a federal grant that will pay to replace the windows and doors at the Findlay Airport's terminal, 1615 Gray St. In a letter to council, dated June 25, City Engineer Jeremy Kalb notified Findlay City Council of the award. The letter was included on council's agenda for Tuesday's regular meeting. The city was awarded $76,520, the full amount it was eligible to receive through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. The grants are meant to assist local governments and tribes in implementing strategies to reduce energy use, cut carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. The reimbursement program utilizes rebates for the purchase and installation of "energy-related" equipment. The program is funded through the 2022 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The city applied for the grant in the fall of 2024. Legislation was introduced to council on Tuesday that will appropriate the money to the project, along with an additional $1,000 from the city's capital improvement fund to pay for bid advertisement. Once council approves the appropriation, Kalb said work will get started. He said the windows could be installed before cold weather begins. The Hancock Regional Planning Commission is administering the grant.
