Tiffin Historic Trust board meeting President McKee welcomed Jim Stultz to his first session as a board member, at the July 7 Tiffin Historic Trust meeting. McKee reported on the Annual Dinner meeting and noted that discussion among the guests included whether the Grammes-Brown House should serve as a living history museum or in another capacity. The proposed neighborhood façade grants idea was well received. Both of those conversations continued at the board meeting. When the Historic Preservation Plaques arrive the board members will join at the recipients' buildings to celebrate the attachment of the awards. The new treasurer, Carlene Hitchcock, submitted her financial report. She will be making changes to the format the software uses in making the reports. She was pleased to report that the rental property is again producing income to help offset the costs of renovation of the property. Although attendance at the Garden Tour was lower than expected, Jackie Fletcher reported that the gardens were beautiful! The Sandusky River Valley Herb Society donated a garden bench to the Grammes-Brown House. It was made by Sentinel students. The Historic Trust will participate in the Heritage Festival Parade in September and welcomes others to join them. Upcoming programming includes the Wednesday, July 23 Historic Tax Credits Program presented by John Kerschner. It will be held at the TSEP/Chamber offices on South Washington Street. John Bing and John Schupp are working on scheduling programs on Victorian Architecture by Josh Dubbert and working with local schools to encourage awareness of the community's history and historic architecture. Jim Stultz volunteered to clean out the Carriage House of the items left after the renovation of the rental property. It will then be available for summer and fall programming, including the possibility of a haunted garden tour for Halloween! In honor of her own birthday, Katelin Romick provided a link from her Facebook page to the Tiffin Historic Trust's donation page on its website. What a fun way to honor a friend and support a local nonprofit! The next board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4. The September meeting is being held early, on Aug. 25 to avoid meeting on Labor Day. Tiffin Rotary Club President Charlene Thomas opened the meeting at the Chandelier Event Center. The Rev. Phil Moerdyk gave the invocation. Our attendance was 14 people. There was one visiting Rotarian, Joe Weaver. The club was happy to see Rem Confesor back from Norway. There were no other guests. Charlene announced that we would forgo committee reports because we would be doing work related to committees later in the meeting. There was no District report. Beth Schweitzer reported that the Foundation would have a Board meeting on Wednesday. Janet Shutt reported that there were no birthdays this week. Our program came in two parts. First, Past President Mimi Johnston led the Installation of Officers and new Directors. Second, President Charlene led a brainstorming session about how to improve our fundraiser. This year, Rotary, Ribs, Rock, & Rum will be held Saturday, Sept. 27 from 5-9 p.m. at the East Green. Kiwanis Club of Tiffin Kim Kreais, who calls herself The Crazy Plant Lady, was the featured speaker for the July 17 meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Tiffin. Sixteen were in attendance at Kiwanis Manor. Kreais, who works part-time at Conine's Country Market in Fostoria, has a pop-up boutique and teaches at area businesses including Active Nutrition. She sets up at farmer's markets and other events and has hosted "plant swaps". She is a member of the Fostoria Garden Club and volunteers for the City of Fostoria. Club president Melissa Mullins opened the meeting leading all in the Pledge of Allegiance and Kiwanis Mission Statement. Pam Greene provided the prayer. Mullins reminded members that Ohio State University football raffle tickets need to be turned into Kayleigh Feasel by Aug. 7. Feasel will set up at the July 27 Farmer's Market and any members that would like to help that day should let her know. Volunteers are needed for the harness racing program sales and beer sales at the Seneca County Fair Tractor Pull next week. Anyone that can help should contact John Millar. Eric Willman said the club gained three new harness racing program sponsors this year. School supplies and hygiene items are being collected for Heavenly Pizza's back-to-school event on Aug. 11. Volunteers are still needed to help at the Grade A Celebration on Aug. 24 at Sentinel. Items are being collected for the August Kiwanis Garage Sale. Items will be collected prior to the July 24 Kiwanis meeting beginning at 11:15 a.m. Other drop-off times at the Seneca County Fairgrounds will be from 5-7 p.m. July 30, July 31 and Aug. 1. Paul Weaver celebrated his birthday. Jeremy Cripps was the 50/50 winner. Following the meeting, a group of club members stayed after and helped assemble chemo care bags that were donated to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital's Cancer Center for patients. Kurt Huenemann and Bernie Steinmetz then delivered 34 bags to the hospital's cancer center. The speaker for the July 24 meeting will be Joe Gilmer from Schooley Mitchell (The Cost Reduction Experts).
