FAGA Championships have Van Buren feel

FINDLAY – The Findlay Area Golf Association Championships had a bit of a Van Buren feeling to them Monday. Addyson Adams, who will be entering her senior season for the Black Knights in a few weeks, fired an 85 at Findlay Country Club to win the Girls 14-18 Division. Adams defeated runner-up EmmaLee VonLehmden by four strokes. Brynn Wells finished third with a 92. Adams also was named the Dr. Charles Spragg Female Player of the Year at the FAGA banquet Monday evening. It's the second-consecutive year she has won the honor. Adams won seven FAGA tournaments this summer. "I've worked hard," said Adams, who helped the Black Knights to a state tournament appearance last fall. "I've tried to stay confident in my game, no matter how well or how bad I'm doing, or if I have a bad shot or if I have a good shot, I just try to stay confident in my game and just try to push through." Jake Schroeder, who is entering his junior season at Van Buren, was named the Dr. Charles Spragg Male Player of the Year. Though he didn't compete in the tournament Monday, he won four during the summer. "All the other tournaments, I had a blast in," said Schroeder, who led the Black Knights to a runner-up finish in the Division III boys tournament last season. "I feel really privileged to be on that list of golfers who've won this." In the 16-18 boys tournament Monday, another Van Buren player, senior Cole Bishop, recorded a 77 to win. Elijah Morris shot an 82 to take second and Andrew Tomlinson placed third with an 86. Bishop also was awarded the Walt Whithaus Male Sportsman of the Year. "It's pretty good, it's pretty cool," Adams said of Van Buren athletes getting honors Monday. "I'm just looking forward to the school season and seeing what we can do as a team," Schroeder said. Hopewell-Loudon's Aubrey Cline was named the Walt Whihaus Female Sportsman of the Year. In other tournaments Monday, Reagan Wenzinger (who plays for Leipsic) won the Boys 14-15 division, shooting a 76. Mac Archer placed second with an 83; Andrew Hibbard was third with an 89. In the Girls 10-13 Division, Trysta Adams won with a 49. Caroline Bennett and Brianne Curry each put up a 69. In the Boys 12-13 division, Corbin Pessell was victorious with an 82, six strokes better than Thayne Shepherd. Will Gutman was third with a 90. In the Boys 10-11 division, Carter McKibben recorded a 42 for the victory, while Rider Elchert was runner-up with a 48. Gavin Weir registered a 56.
