The money tree Wouldn't we all want the Downtown Recreation Area, the bike paths throughout town, and the path leading to Riverbend Park, including an $800,000 shelter house, if money grew on trees? Projects like this are played out across the U.S. every day, requiring ever-increasing federal and state taxes from the taxpayer. Oftentimes only a handful of people ever use these projects that we have all paid for. Unfortunately, for the taxpayer we are the money tree in politicians' eyes. We are never listened to no matter how many times or ways we say no to these projects. It is not for us to question, but for us to pony up the money for these overpriced projects through taxes which they call grants to make it sound as though it is not your tax money. If you are tired of business as usual and paying for all of these costly projects, please attend or listen to council meetings and speak up or you will continue to pony up. It is also important that you consider who you are voting for and why you are voting for that person. Please get involved or you will continue to pay ever-increasing taxes and remain the money tree.
