On abortion In the past, I've used this page to speak about the public's trust in Lake Erie's waters, and more recently, about lawlessness in our country. Now I feel compelled to write about abortion. Is it a legal right, or a moral issue? I believe it's the latter. Scripture makes that clear. In Jeremiah 1:5, God says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you." And in Psalm 139:13, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." These words tell us that God knows and values each life before birth. In Psalm 127:3 we're reminded that "children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward." And in Matthew 19:14, Jesus says, "Let the little children come to me ... for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." These verses show that children are not accidents or inconveniences — they are gifts. So I ask: by what right do we abort God's gift? Adoption is always a better option. Someone will love that child. We also never talk about what the world loses: the doctors, teachers, nurses, and the inventers who might have been. These are the people who make our world better. In closing, I encourage all of us to have faith in God — and to do the right thing. Robert Eisel Findlay
