Arcadia kicks off season by winning Arlington Invite

ARLINGTON – Arcadia's Owen Green was the meet medalist with an 83 when the Redskins kicked off the 2025 prep golf season on Monday by winning the Arlington Invitational at Sycamore Springs Golf Course.Aiden Cline added an 87 for the Redskins, who posted a 386 team total. Waynesfield-Goshen (399) won a fifth-man scorecard playoff to take second over North Baltimore in the seven-school field. Arlington was fourth (416), followed by Hardin Northern (450), Ada (452) and Pandora-Gilboa (493). Gymnasts placeHOUSTON – Kaylee Morales won two events and placed third in two others at the AAU Junior Olympics Games that wrapped up over the weekend in Houston, Tex.Morales, who will be entering her sophomore year at Liberty-Benton High School, won an all-around championship in the Senior Division, Diamond Level events on Thursday. Her scores in that competition qualified her for Saturday's meet in all four events, where she placed first on uneven bars (9.55) and floor (9.7), and third on vault (9.025) and balance beam (9.65).Morales not only received AAU All-American recognition in her division, but also earned the AAU Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award.Breckeny Strohscher, who won an all-around title in the Gold Level, Junior Division, also qualified for Saturday's competition in the beam, finishing sixth (9.025) in that event. Ottawa Legion fallsLANCASTER – Ottawa Post 63's tournament hopes were washed away following a lengthy rain delay on Sunday at the American Legion Senior state tournament at Beavers Field in Lancaster.Making its first state tournament appearance in 36 years, Ottawa rode two shutouts to the winners bracket semifinals where Post 63 had a 2-0 lead on Beverly Lowell Post 389/750. A rain storm forced a five-hour break in the tourney, and Beverly Lowell rallied for a 12-2 win. Ottawa then lost a 6-1 decision to Yeager Benson Post 199 in the consolation final, ending its season at 23-13. Legion tryoutsFINDLAY – Tryouts for the Findlay Post 3/Bettsville Post 733 Junior and Senior Legion Baseball teams will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at Findlay High School.Tryouts are open to players ages 16-19, with Jan. 1 the cutoff date. Because of Findlay's turf field, no metal cleats, seeds or gum are allowed.
