FHS boys open with 5th place finish at Knights Invite

MAUMEE – Seniors Jamie Tate and Jacob Meier, two of the top returning veterans for Findlay High's boys golf team, fired matching 80s on Friday when the Trojans opened their 2025 season by placing fifth in the Knights Invitational, an event hosted by Toledo St. Francis and held at the Maumee Bay Golf Club.Tate manned the No. 3 spot and Meier was No. 4 on the 2024 FHS team that placed fourth in the Northern Lakes League, then won a sectional title and finished fifth in the Division I district tournament.Leo Castellaneta, another senior letterman, carded an 83 on Friday and Owen Vick, a junior, had an 84 as the Trojans posted a 327 team score in their season opener. Senior Greyson Cramer (86) and junior Kellen Sherer (87) completed the opening-day lineup for first-year FHS coach Ryan Grose.Findlay returns to the links on Tuesday, with the varsity team competing in the Marysville Invitational at the Darby Creek Golf Course and a second team teeing it up in the Colonial Invitational at Colonial Hills. The Trojans will then take part in a Sectional Preview at Sycamore Springs on Wednesday, and the Anthony Wayne Invitational at the Brandywine Country Club on Thursday. CELINA INVITECELINA – Led by the 1-2 punch of Alex Bellman and Tyler Heckman, Ottawa-Glandorf opened its 2025 boys golf season on Friday by winning the team title at the Celina Invitational.Bellman, a sophomore, carded a 1-over-par 73 on the Lynx Golf Course in Celina. Heckman, a junior, posted a 76, sophomore Collin Ellerbrock shot an 83 and junior Davis Maag, another returning starter off of last year's Western Buckeye League championship team, had an 85.O-G's 317 total bettered second-place St. Mary Memorial (322) by five strokes. Van Wert (340) edged Liberty-Benton (341) by one shot for third.Jackson Knepper led L-B with a 78 and joined O-G's Bellman and Heckman on the all-tournament team. Andrew Tomlinson added an 82 for Liberty-Benton, Asher Norman carded an 89 and Luke Gerken had a 92. H-L INVITATIONALFOSTORIA – Carey's Landon Roberts fired a 73 at the Fostoria Country Club on Friday to finish second in the medalist standings and lead the Blue Devils to the championship of the Hopewell-Loudon Invitational.Andrew Resendez was sixth overall with an 82 and Chase Mullholand and Porter McLaughlin added 88s to complete Carey's 331 total. The Blue Devils posted a score of 331 to edge Sandusky St. Marys (335) by four strokes and add this year's title to H-L Invitational championships won in 2022 and 2016.Arcadia got an 83 from Owen Green and an 88 from Aiden Cline in tying Lakota (375) for seventh place in the 12-school standings. Riverdale was ninth (389) with Nathan Alge's 75 leading the Falcons.
