FHS girls fourth at Eagle Invitational

TOLEDO – Three Findlay High golfers – all underclassmen – broke 90 on a tough course on Saturday when the Trojans opened their 2025 girls golf season with a fourth-place finish in the Eagle Invitational held at the South Toledo Golf Club.Brynn Wells, a freshman, and junior Lainey Ricker carded scores of 86. Sophomore Claire White shot an 89 and Josey Weihrauch, a junior, had a 92. Sophomores Lydia Cleland (98) and Alaina Lenhart (117) rounded out the opening day lineup for first-year head coach Suzanne (Short) Neiling, who was an all-league player and Division I district qualifier during her prep career at Findlay High, and later a four-year letter winner at Ohio Northern.Findlay finished one shot out of third place in Saturday's tournament. Anthony Wayne won the team title with a score of 321. Toledo Notre Dame, the host school, was second (339) and Archbold (351) nipped Findlay (352) for third. Perrysburg (372) was fifth, followed by the No. 2 teams from Anthony Wayne (377) and Toledo Notre Dame (425).Findlay will be the host school today when the Trojan Invitational is held at Sycamore Springs. Mud Hens' bullpen nearly perfect in win over Saints TOLEDO – The Mud Hens' Hao-Yu Lee cranked a solo homer in the sixth inning of Sunday's game to tie the St. Paul Saints at 1, then later in the inning, Jace Jung hit a go-ahead RBI single, sending Toledo to a 4-1 win.The Mud Hens have won five of six games. They will play at Louisville at 6:35 p.m.Toledo used five pitchers. Starting pitcher Randy Dobnak went four innings and allowed three hits and one run in five innings. He allowed a run. After that, the four relievers who pitched for the Mud Hens –Tyler Mattison, RJ Petit, Cody Heuer and Chase Lee – didn't allow a hit over the remaining five innings.Petit, who struck out two in a perfect 1 1/3 innings, got the win. Lee fanned a pair in retiring all six batters he faced to get the save.The Mud Hens led 2-1 going to the bottom of the eighth, when Ryan Kreidler grounded a single into left to plate two runs.The Saints' only run came in the first, when Payton Eeles singled in Luke Keaschall. Mick Abel, a former 15th overall pick by the Phillies who came to St. Paul when the Minnesota Twins made a flurry of moves before the trade deadline, went five scoreless innings for the Saints Sunday in getting the no-decision.Abel allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking two.St. Paul's Christian McLeod came on in relief and took the loss, allowing all four of the Mud Hens' runs in three innings of work.Toledo moved to 57-51; the Saints fell to 47-59.
