Countdown to football: Cory-Rawson

CORY-RAWSON2024 Record: 1-9 (0-8 Northwest Central Conference)Head coach: Eric Heffner, second year (1-9).KEY GAME: Aug. 22 season opener, at Arcadia. A nonleague matchup between two former Blanchard Valley Conference foes. Both programs have struggled with numbers, but each school has defended its home turf. Arcadia came out on top 34-7 in its home opener in 2023. Cory-Rawson won at home, 29-22, last season.INTERESTING FACT: Cory-Rawson scored 29 points in its opening win over Arcadia but struggled offensively the rest of the season, scoring just 25 more points over it last nine games. Carson Reese had a hand in most of those 25 points, but with his foot not his arm. Reese attempted five field goals last season and made four of them, including a 41-yarder.MAGIC NUMBER: 75. This season marks the 75th year since Rawson and Mount Cory consolidated to form Cory-Rawson High School. Rawson and Mount Cory competed as separate schools in the Hancock County League until consolidating. When Mount Blanchard consolidated into Riverdale, in 1962, the remaining seven schools reorganized the league, bringing in Hardin Northern and Westwood (basketball only). When Westwood was absorbed into the Bowling Green School District, Pandora-Gilboa and Leipsic became the ninth and tenth members of a Blanchard Valley Conference alignment that would continue virtually unchanged for 50 years.
