FHS golfers first in Sectional Preview

ARLINGTON – Findlay High's senior experience paid off for the team and for first-year head coach Ryan Grose on Wednesday when the Trojans placed first in the Division I Sectional Preview tournament held at Arlington's Sycamore Springs Golf Course. Jacob Meier, one of four seniors in Findlay's six-man lineup, fired a 77 to earn medalist honors for the event. Jamie Tate, another senior, and junior Owen Vick carded matching rounds of 80. Senior Leo Castellaneta posted an 84 to complete Findlay's winning score of 321. Senior Bryce Frost (89) and junior Kellen Sherer (90) rounded out Findlay's lineup. Findlay and the other Division I schools in the field will return to Sycamore Springs on Sept. 24 for the OHSAA sectional tournament. The top five teams in that event will qualify for the Division I district. PCL MEET 1 KALIDA – Leipsic's Reagan Wenzinger fired an even-par round of 72 at Kalida's Moose Landing Country Club on Wednesday and edged two other golfers by one stroke for medalist honors in the first of three tournaments that will determine the Putnam County League championship. Ottoville's Evan Altenburger and Parker Langhals both carded 73s in leading the Big Green to a 323 total and the team title. Kalida was a close second (325), followed by Columbus Grove (331), Leipsic (343), Miller City (371), Fort Jennings (415) and Pandora-Gilboa (429). Leipsic's Brevin Brandt was fourth (78) in the medalist standings, while Gage Sautter (81) and Dalton Hyman (81) led Columbus Grove.
