Findlay tennis second at Ashland

ASHLAND – Abi Russell at No. 3 singles and Findlay High's No. 2 doubles team of Lauren Tabler and Sanjana Indupuru won their brackets on Saturday when the Trojans placed second in the Ashland Tennis Invitational.Russell beat her Ashland opponent 8-0, then scored 8-2 wins over players from Brunswick and Wooster to win her title.Tabler and Indupuru triumphed in closer matches, beating Brunswick 8-4, Ashland 8-3 and Mansfield Madison 8-2.Findlay's No. 1 doubles team of Audrey Schroeder and Willow Wetzel went 1-1 in the tournament, beating Wooster's doubles team 8-3 before falling 8-1 to Ashland.In a heated battle for the overall championship, Wooster compiled 8.0 points to nip Findlay (7.5) for first place. Findlay also edged Tiffin Columbian (7.0) by half a point for runner-up honors.Findlay is back on the court today with a match at Toledo St. Ursula. MARION HARDING INVITATIONAL MARION – Upper Sandusky's doubles team of Ardyn North and Abi Gottfried went 2-0 at the Marion Harding Invitational, helping the Rams to a third-place finish in the team standings.North and Gottfried defeated Harding's Hillary Rawlins and Kaetlyn Bonsel, and then topped Lexington's Ella Gadfield and Jade Hunt.The Rams ended with five points. The Minutemen won the championship with 18 points, while the host Presidents were runners-up with eight points.
