Carey school board readies for school year

Carey — The Carey Local School Board of Education discussed several agenda items at its regular meeting Monday in preparation of the upcoming school year, which starts next week. Superintendent Michael Wank announced the school district will be offering free breakfast and lunch to students in the coming school year. "Carey is providing free breakfast and lunch through the Community CDP program. That's a year to year kind of program that we apply for. We have to see what we are eligible for," Wank said. He also said he was very happy with the custodial department's summer work to get the school buildings ready for the school year. The board later passed the following agenda items: • Contracts with BEE-SAFE for security officer agreement and Wadsworth Solutions for software upgrade. • Bus routes for the 2025-2026 school year. • A stipend of $1000.00 for staff members who completed structures or phonics first trainings. • The resignations or retirements of Brittany Bouillon and Cassondra Boone. • Non-teaching contracts with Samantha Hall, Karen Molner, Lora Ann Perkins, Kelsey Shumaker and Jimmy Perkins. • Donna Hohman, Marty Baker, Brandy Fredritz, Trevor Cook and Jay Nickerson as school vehicle drivers. • Lisa Putnam, Wendy Wentling, Dena Vackert and Angela Ford as substitutes. • A stipend of $400 for administrators who completed the science of reading training. The board then went into executive session to discuss employment of an employee. No action was taken. The next Carey board of education meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 8 in the high school office board room.
