GIRLS TENNIS FINDLAY 5SPRINGFIELD 0FINDLAY – Findlay's girls tennis team chalked up its first win on Tuesday and did so in impressive fashion, winning all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 Northern Lakes League win over Springfield.Findlay's doubles teams posted carbon-copy wins, both by 6-0, 6-2 margins. Audrey Schroeder and Willow Wetzel beat Springfield's Alex Daney and Hope Snyder in the No. 1 doubles slot; Maggie Bramel and Reese Hagedorn topped Karlene Brown and Tori Welch at No. 2.Findlay's singles wins were similar as well, with Abi Russell scoring a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Maggie Evans at No. 1, Kendall Beall beating Kyla Dawson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, and Rosalynn Mayle using that same score to down Lily Azzarello at No. 3.Findlay is back on the courts – and on the road – on Thursday when the Trojans travel to Perrysburg to take on the Yellow Jackets, one of the dominant program in the league with 19 career NLL titles to its credit. Cruz hits walk-off grand slam for Mud Hens TOLEDO – Johnathan Rodriguez and Jhonkensy Noel provided dramatic, game changing home runs for the Clippers Tuesday night in Toledo, going back-to-back with two outs in the ninth inning and giving Columbus a 6-5 lead. But the Mud Hens Trei Cruz found a way to top their heroics. Cruz slugged a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth off Clipper reliever Franco Aleman, which gave Toledo a walkoff 10-6 win. It was Cruz's third homer of the season. It was the Mud Hens second rally of the game. They trailed Columbus 4-0 going to the bottom of the sixth, but an RBI double by Eduardo Valencia capped a four-run inning, and tied the game. The Mud Hens went ahead, 5-4, in the seventh, when Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a hard grounder on the infield that went for an RBI double. It stayed that way until the ninth, when the Clippers – the Cleveland Guardians top farm team – hit back-to-back homers off Mud Hens reliever Jordan Balazovic. Balazovic got the win on the mound for the Mud Hens, who improved to 63-52. The Clippers (49-61) were aided by a solo home run from Khalil Watson in the second.
