Museum to present outdoor showing of 'The Goonies'

FINDLAY — The Hancock Historical Museum has announced the return of the Bill and Gail Miller annual Outdoor Movie Night, featuring the cult classic "The Goonies." This free, family-friendly event will take place Saturday in the museum's parking lot, 422 W. Sandusky St. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. with pirate-themed crafts and games for kids and a treasure hunt with prizes sponsored by the Jolly Dipper. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume, with a special prize awarded to the best-dressed Goonie or pirate. John King from the Bowling Green State University Popular Culture Department will deliver a short talk before the movie and share unique items from the Pop Culture Library's collection. Ian's Doughnuts will be on-site selling their treats, and the museum will offer free popcorn with donations accepted to support museum programs and events. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and favorite beverages. The movie will begin at 8:30 p.m., or as soon as it is dark enough. The museum's parking lot will be closed to vehicles to accommodate the event. Visitors are asked to park on West Sandusky Street or in nearby public lots. Directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg, the 1985 film is rated PG and tells the story of a band of misfit kids who stumble upon a pirate map and set out to save their neighborhood with the help of "One-Eyed Willy's" long-lost treasure. In the event of inclement weather, festivities will be moved indoors. This year's remaining Classic Movie Night lineup includes: "Bride of Frankenstein" (PG, 1935), Oct. 24; "Dark Passage" (PG, 1947), Nov. 21; and "It's A Wonderful Life" (PG, 1946) Dec. 19.
