Save for a rainy day I'm writing in response to the proposed $30-40 million park downtown. In reading some letters in support of this project, it appears that some think that this park is the answer to making our city a great place to settle. In my experience, and what I know is we already have a great city and another park is not going to make people want to live here. What people want is good schools, low crime rate, good fire protection, good infrastructure, low unemployment and low taxes. Guess what? We have good schools, a low crime rate with an accredited police department, a top-rated fire department, good infrastructure, are usually one of the top counties in low unemployment in the state and we are one of the few cities in the state our size that still have only a 1% income tax. As for infrastructure, we have the largest above-ground reservoir in the state. This is a very important commodity for businesses and private entities. We already have many nice and beautiful parks for the percent of people who will use them. How many people know where Ede Park is located? I say let's save $30-40 million for a rainy day. I know this project is going to happen anyway because most people don't care to get involved. I wouldn't proceed any further until the railroad gets off its caboose and builds a new trestle over the river and the results of the environmental report on the area that the old plating company was located on is finished. I was told many years ago that one of the hottest wells in the state was Well #1 located on the property of another plating company on Crystal Avenue. My suggestion is to keep it structure-free and green. Pete Sehnert Findlay
