Van Buren claims title in BG

BOYS GOLF BOWLING GREEN – Van Buren sizzled on a sizzling day for golf, firing a team score of 297 at Bowling Green's Stone Ridge Golf Club to win the championship of the Woodmore Invitational.Van Buren's Cole Bishop was the tournament medalist in a scorecard playoff with Archbold's Grady Short and Levi Clum of Allen East. All three posted 1-under scores of 71.Jake Schroeder added a 72 for the Black Knights and joined Bishop on the all-tournament team. GIRLS GOLF OLD FORT INVITEELMORE – Hopewell-Loudon's top four golfers all shot 49 or better but it was fifth player Brooke Clouse's 51 that earned the Chieftains the title on Wednesday in a Sandusky Bay Conference/River Division tournament held at Sugar Creek Golf Club.Aubrey Cline (40), Megan Boes (45), Mylie Alt (46) and Mallory Rowe (49) put up a 180 team total. Old Fort also shot 180, initiating the fifth-man tie-breaker to decide first-place points for the meet. MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TOLEDO – Aaron Davenport through six no-hit, shutout innings, and the Clippers limited the Mud Hens offense to just a Trei Cruz single in a 2-0 win. Davenport walked four and struck out eight and was lifted after 96 pitches with a 1-0 lead. Tim Herrin – who has pitched in 38 games for the Cleveland Guardians this season – pitched the seventh. He retired Toledo's Jace Jung and Max Anderson on groundouts to start the inning, but then allowed a base hit to Cruz to spoil the no-hit bid. The next batter, Eduardo Valencia, worked a walk to put two on. But Herrin fanned Gage Workman to end the threat. Parker Mushinski worked a perfect eighth and ninth for Columbus to secure his sixth save of the season. He struck out three batters. The Clippers scored their first run in the top of the third, when Travis Bazzana – the top overall pick of the 2024 draft – singled against Mud Hens reliever Carlos Pena, bringing home Christian Cairo. Pena – one of four Toledo pitchers Wednesday – took the loss. The Clippers scored again in the eighth, when Khalil Watson doubled in George Valera. Columbus improved to 50-61. Toledo dropped to 63-53. The teams will play at 6:35 p.m. tonight at Fifth Third Field in Toledo.
