Findlay boys tie Wapakoneta in season opener

BOYS SOCCERFINDLAY 2WAPAKONETA 2FINDLAY – Findlay High boys soccer coach Kevin Shenise said Carson Firestone would be a player to keep an eye on.In his first varsity match, Firestone, a freshman forward, scored one of Findlay's two goals on Saturday when the Trojans and Wapakoneta battled to a 2-2 draw at Elmer Graham Stadium."He's got some skills," Shenise said in assessing the 2025 season."He's one of those kids that has a nose for the ball. He's going to be an exciting kid to watch."Zion Ortiz, a sophomore, scored Findlay's other goal and David Roberts made eight saves in goal in the season opener for both teams. Ortiz also had seven intercepts and four steals, while Tyler Worthington had five intercepts and six steals.Gavin and Aiden Gallaspie scored goals for Wapakoneta.JUNIOR VARSITY: Findlay 5, Wapakoneta 1 RIVERDALE 7WOODMORE 1MOUNT BLANCHARD – Riverdale's Cameron Snook got his season off to a flying start on Saturday, scoring five goals and assisting on another in Riverdale's 7-1 romp over Woodmore.A sophomore forward, Snook scored three goals in a 20-minute span to put Riverdale up 4-1 at the half. Blaine Roach added two goals and an assist and Aiden Stutz had two assistsin the Falcons' season opener.Reydon Bishop made four saves in goal. SHAWNEE 3BLUFFTON 1BLUFFTON – Lima Shawnee broke a 1-1 deadlock with two goals in the final 10 minutes and beat Bluffton 3-1 in a boys soccer match at Steinmetz Field on Saturday.Bluffton's Carter Steinmetz scored a tying goal in the 30th minute of play. WAYNE 7O-GLANDORF 0OTTAWA – Anthony Wayne's Lila Simon scored four goals when Anthony Wayne beat Ottawa-Glandorf 7-0 in a matchup of girls soccer powers.Kaity Carr made five saves to get the shutout for Anthony Wayne, which reached the Division II state semifinals last season. Libbie Niese had 11 saves for O-G, last year's state runner-up in Division IV. FRIDAY FINDLAY – Toledo St. Ursula eked out a 1-0 win over Findlay on Friday in the girls soccer season opener for both teams.Addie Sprang made 11 saves in goal for Findlay. Liv Gayhart stood out defensively with 11 intercepts, three steals and three blocks. Emme Patey had seven intercepts, two blocks and a steal, and Elleson Rader had five blocks and three intercepts.Lucy Bower, Ava Cooper and Noah Tesner all had five intercepts for the Trojans, who host Toledo Whitmer on Wednesday in a Northern Lakes League match at Elmer Graham Stadium.
