Hancock County jobless rate rose in July

FINDLAY — Hancock County's unemployment rate rose to 5.4% in July from 4.8% in June, the Ohio Job and Family Services Department reported Tuesday. Jobless rates rose in 85 of Ohio's 88 counties last month. Putnam County's 4.3% unemployment rate was tied for third lowest in Ohio with Union County, south of Hardin and Marion counties, and Medina County, in northeastern Ohio. Area unemployment rates in July, with June rates in parentheses, then July 2024, were: • Allen County, 5.7% (5.2%); 4.7%. • Hancock County, 5.4% (4.8%); 4.4%. • Hardin County, 6.1% (5.8%); 5.1%. • Henry County, 5.5% (5%); 5.3%. • Putnam County, 4.3% (4%); 3.7%. • Seneca County, 5.9% (5.2%); 5.1%. • Wood County, 5.4% (4.8%); 4.8%. • Wyandot County, 4.7% (4.4%); 4.7%. The lowest jobless rate in the state last month was in Holmes County, in east-central Ohio, 3.8%. The highest unemployment rate in the state, 8.3%, was in Jackson County, in southern Ohio. The statewide jobless rate, which is seasonally adjusted, rose to 5% in July from 4.9% in June. In July 2024 it was 4.3%. The nationwide unemployment rate, which is seasonally adjusted, rose to 4.2% in July from 4.1% in June. In July 2024 it was 4.2%.
