Findlay roundabout in the works

FINDLAY — City administrators are seeking permission from Findlay City Council to pursue a grant that would help pay for the construction of a roundabout at the Lake Cascades Parkway and Western Avenue intersection. Legislation to allow administrators to apply for a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission was introduced to council at its regular meeting on Tuesday. In a letter to council, dated Aug. 11, City Engineer Jeremy Kalb said the city submits a grant application annually to the OPWC, and the roundabout is a good fit for this year's application. The city is asking for $435,000 to help pay for the construction of the roundabout. Kalb said the current T-intersection is used mostly by residential traffic and uses stop signs to move traffic through the area. At Tuesday's council meeting, he said the roundabout will solve problems with lines of sight at the intersection, making it safer. The OPWC is a state agency that helps local governments in Ohio fund and improve their public infrastructure. It administers programs that provide grants and loans for projects such as roads, bridges, culverts, water supply systems and wastewater systems. Funding for the OPWC comes from state infrastructure bonds and motor fuel tax receipts.
