Arcadia uses big second quarter to beat Hornets

ARCADIA 52C-RAWSON 14ARCADIA– After Cory-Rawson took a 7-6 lead after the first quarter, Arcadia came alive to rout the Hornets 52-14 at home.The Redskins put up a whopping 32 points in the second quarter to snatch a big lead and secure a week-one victory. This win marked Arcadia's first since week eight of the 2023 season, as they went winless a year ago.Senior quarterback Dean Williams scored one of the Hornets' two touchdowns, using his legs for a 26-yard QB keeper.Arcadia goes on a road trip next Friday, traveling to Lakota. The Hornets will host Upper Scioto Valley on Friday as they open up Northwest Central Conference play. VAN BUREN 37FOSTORIA 6VAN BUREN– Van Buren opened up a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and scored 17 more in the second to earn a dominant 37-6 win over Fostoria at home.Brody Scoles led the way for the Black Knights, finishing with 200 rushing yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns. Brady Lance added a score as well on the ground, carrying the ball 10 times for 121 yards. Brooks Hill added two carries for 24 yards, while receiver Alex Homan added 16 yards through the air. Hill was active on the defensive side of the ball, with two tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble. Tommy Basinger, Caleb Mason, and Jacob Harrington each notched five solo tackles, with Basinger and Brady Lance each adding a sack. "They played a tough game," Van Buren coach Ethan Percer said of Fostoria. "We came out ready to rock and roll. We were sloppy in the red zone early, but then kinda picked it up. I was happy to see our guys run the ball so successfully tonight. Our offensive line, they blocked their butts off tonight, and our receivers did as well."Van Buren's big win follows up a dominant outing versus Fostoria in Week 1 last season, which saw the Black Knights come away with a 36-0 shutout on the road. Williams also returned a 79-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff, and an 83-yard kickoff return TD, both in the first quarter. Overall, Williams scored a massive six total touchdowns.Sophomore QB Marc Kirkendall passed for 212 yards, throwing two touchdowns and completing 16 of his 26 throws. Aaron Hazleton led through the air with four receptions for 62 yards. Avery Paris (4 receptions, 61 yards) and Grady Bryan (4 receptions, 59 yards) each caught one touchdown. Lake's Julian Rodriguez was a force both on the ground and through the air. Rodriguez went for four total touchdowns, two rushing and two receiving. He recorded 26 carries for 190 yards, and seven receptions for 155 yards. QB Kalen Magers went 17-0f-32 on passes, throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns. The Vikings made up for a week-one loss to the Flyers last season, where they fell 34-22 at home. Leipsic looks ahead to a home game next week, taking on BVC foe Van Buren at 7. New starting quarterback Blake Zoladz went 12-of-14 in his debut, throwing for 161 yards and two scores, while rushing for 63 yards on 11 carries and notching a touchdown on the ground as well. Kolton Dysert finished with 17 carries, rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Oldfield caught four passes for 99 yards, accounting for both of the Bulldogs' passing TDs.
