Perrysburg tops Trojans in NLL match

PERRYSBURG 8 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;1 PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg's unbeaten girls soccer team entered Wednesday's match with Findlay averaging 8.3 goals a game and the Yellow Jackets were right on par with an 8-1 win over the Trojans in a Northern Lakes League victory over the Trojans. Perrysburg improved to 4-0-0 overall in its NLL opener. Findlay is 1-1-0 in the league, 2-2-0 overall heading into Saturday's match with Elida. VAN BUREN 7 SWANTON &emsp;&emsp;0 SWANTON — Van Buren's Kami Bowman scored three goals and the Black Knights evened their girls soccer record at 2-2 on Wednesday with a 7-0 win over Swanton. Serenity Ferguson had a goal and an assist and Maddy Hardie handed out two assists for Van Buren, which had a 21-1 advantage in shots on goal. Lauren Dahms, Sophia Webster and Ashlynn Fenstermaker found the net as well for the Black Knights. Volleyball DEFIANCE – Findlay and Defiance swapped sets before the Bulldogs pulled out a marathon 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-10 volleyball win over the Trojans on Tuesday. Davinee Harris was 31-of-35 spiking with 12 kills and had 39 digs for Findlay (1-4). Lauren Heydinger (17-21 spiking, 4 blocks) and Makiah Orians (10-12 spiking) had seven kills each. Delaney Harris was 64-of-65 setting with 19 assists and Maggie Crates was 51-of-54 setting with 18 assists. Anika Helms led the Trojans with 45 digs and Steph Ragan had 35. Neela Epps was 15-of-18 serving with five aces and Addy Rood had three blocks. The Trojans face a major challenge today when they travel to Anthony Wayne, which was Ohio's Division II state runner-up a year ago and is off to a 6-1 start this season. Findlay returns home next week for Northern Lakes League games with Springfield on Tuesday and Toledo Whitmer on Thursday. Due to the length of Tuesday's reserve, junior varsity and varsity matches, results were not received until after the Courier's deadline. JUNIOR VARSITY: Defiance, 25-20, 31-29.
