Congress must not delay in forcing DOJ to release Epstein files

Congress is coming back after Labor Day. Remember, they abruptly went on their summer recess to avoid dealing with Jeffrey Epstein's files. They punted. Now the games begin. What President Donald Trump has to realize is that the truth and the complete Epstein Files must be released to Congress and the American people "like yesterday" or immediately. Responsible for maintaining the law, the Justice Department has failed to comply with the letter of the law per a congressional subpoena to give the entire Epstein files over to Congress. Days later, the DOJ released a few items. The DOJ has told Congress members they will get what they get when they get it. So, even those responsible for law and order in America seem unwilling to comply fully with "law and order" in America — a new low. These Republican members of Congress campaigned on the complete release of the files (minus the names of the victims). Most Republicans did not believe Epstein committed suicide, due to the mysterious missing minutes in the camera recordings. They believed there was a client list. Now we get nothing from those same members of Congress. They are as gullible as an eight-year- old's belief in Santa Claus — somewhat justified as children believe their parents. So, now we are to believe the Trump administration's claim that "there is nothing to see." If Congress cannot immediately get the Epstein files in their entirety, every Republican should be defeated in November 2026, as only a Republican-controlled Congress can get to the truth behind the Epstein files as Democrats do not chair any committees or the Speaker's chair in Congress. Their only option would be via a discharge petition which is hard to ascertain. If the Justice Department refuses to release the files, who else can make it do so other than Congress? It is becoming more and more obvious that Trump will not. He is busy creating distractions mainly by attacking Black people, Black women in particular. Let us remember that the same U.S. attorney that gave Epstein a sweetheart plea agreement was later elevated to a higher status. He became Trump's Secretary of Labor, Alexander Acosta. And it was the Trump administration that granted a more country-club-like prison for Ghislaine Maxwell after she met with Trump's former personal attorney. The Trump administration would like to drag this out for years. It is very much like what happens when a police officer pulls you over because your swerving car would force him to make the likely conclusion that you are driving impaired. If you refuse to take the breathalyzer test, the officer immediately arrests you. We cannot do that for the executive branch, as the Justice Department controls the U.S. Attorneys. This would truly be the "constitutional crisis" that many have feared. There are few things that people cannot tolerate. Hurting children would appear at the top of the list. I have seen a similar movie. In my hometown of Waterbury, the former Republican Mayor Phil Giordano is serving a 37-year prison sentence because of his crimes against little girls. He sexually abused two minors which produced undeniable evidence on the carpet of the mayor's office. His sentence was elevated because the girls were Black. He violated their civil rights as well with a parent of the girls being complicit. What are the differences between the mayor of Waterbury's situation and that of Catholic priests sexually molesting little white boys and Epstein? Both the Catholic Church and Epstein had the money to cover-up their actions. The second big difference is that the Catholic priests' and Epstein's victims were little white boys and underage white girls. As irony would have it, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others who fought for the Civil Rights Act enhanced the gravity of the mayor's case which extended his time in jail. The last difference is swift justice. Very few Catholic priests paid a price for their actions. But with Epstein — listen closely Trump administration and Congress — you want us to believe that despite hundreds of victims, only Epstein and Maxwell committed crimes against them? Please, stop insulting our intelligence. Trump's sycophants say, "Well, Biden and the Democrats had the files and they did nothing. Why get mad at Trump? If there was anything bad about Trump surely they would have released them." That is a pathetic argument. Proxy on both your houses, Democrat and Republican. That is exactly why the public gets bull's manure, the victims fail to receive complete justice, and sexual abusers who maybe prominent Americans live their lives as though nothing has happened. They are not held accountable. (Can anyone say, "Heavily financed, capable candidates need to form a third-party option in America"? Despite attempts to gerrymander congressional districts, the robots in Congress would not have a chance. So, Trump can send his former lawyer to "interview" and literally put words into Maxwell's mouth for the tape recorder and nothing is achieved other than the predictable. She claims she likes Trump. Isn't that special? OK. Even that statement from a person indicted twice for perjury is suspect. More appropriately, she needs Trump if she ever hopes to get out of prison early. Yet, right in front of our eyes, she is placed in a country-club-like prison, giving the appearance of a perk for her participation in the charade. Why? Sometimes it seems like the folks around Trump would like to have their intelligence only measured by the number of words they can use in response to a simple question. They give the "Flim-Flam Man" a bad name. So where are we as a nation? Without total transparency of the Epstein files involving those once young white girls whose lives have been damaged — one has committed suicide — there will be no justice for them. And where there is no justice, there should be no peace (a familiar phrase). It would be a sad "indictment" of Congress, and it would give new meaning to the notion of political impotence.
