Grove boys take team title at home invite

COLUMBUS GROVE – Columbus Grove won the boys title in the Gray Division and two area girls teams placed second at the Columbus Grove Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.Ranked No. 2 in Division IV in the Ohio High School Track and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, Columbus Grove scored 39 points to edge No. 1-ranked Convoy Crestview (49) in the boys Gray Division. Findlay was third (123) behind West Liberty Salem (64) and Bryan (73) in the boys Red Division, with Liberty-Benton fifth (137) and Van Buren sixth (197).In the girls portions of the meet, Columbus Grove (75) was second behind Minster (30) in the Gray Division, and Ottawa-Glandorf (91) was runner-up to Lancaster (62) in the Red Division. Findlay's girls were fifth (162), Liberty-Benton was 11th and Van Buren 13th in the Red Division girls standings.Columbus Grove junior Caiden Squillante ran a time of 16:06.3 in winning the boys individual title in the Gray Division. Four other Grove runners placed among the top 15, with Holden Hartzog fifth (16:21.6), Aidan Vogt eighth (16:31.6), Zack Bryan 13th (16:37.7) and Braylon Best 14th (16:39.7).Patrick Henry's Mia Amador was the winner of the girls Gray race with a time of 18:46.0. Grove's Lily Montgomery was sixth (20:00.9) and Sarah Kamphaus was 11th (20:41.0). Cory-Rawson sophomore Libby Kempf was 12th (20:57.2).Liberty-Benton's Aiden Lee placed fourth (15:49.7), Findlay's Cam Stechschulte was fifth (16:07.3) and Russell Stine IV was tenth (16:21.0) and Ottawa-Glandorf's Cooper Fischer was ninth (16:19.7) in boys Red Division. Seniors Tyler Strabley (20th, 16:46.), Lucas Parnell (24th, 16:52.6) and Andrew Custer (64th, 18:22.7) completed Findlay's score. Liberty-Benton's Bryce Hans (16:34.7) was 16th overall and Lane Fannin (17:06.0) was 29th for L-B, followed by Cohen Levenhagen (33rd, 17:13.0) and Hudson Day (55th, 17:57.4).Carter Fry (23rd, 16:47.7) led Van Buren, along with Andrew Puperi (26th, 17:02.5), Carter Finley (31st, 17:06.8) and Griffin Ware (32nd, 17:09.9).Findlay's Natalie Gutman was the top area placer in the girls Red Division race, finishing seventh with a time of 19:01.2.
