Leipsic, L-B post key BVC volleyball wins

LEIPSIC &emsp;&emsp;3 VAN BUREN 0 LEIPSIC – Wednesday was a successful night for Leipsic's volleyball team, and a milestone night for the Vikings Karmyn Brough. Leipsic opened defense of its 2024 Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball championship with a straight set 25-11, 25-15, 25-21 win over Van Buren. Brough, a returning first-team all-BVC setter for the Vikings, had 40 assists and surpassed 2,000 career assists in the victory. Danaysia Danzy, the 2024 BVC Player of the Year for a Leipsic team that went 25-2 and reached the Division VII regional semifinals, pounded 21 kills in Wednesday's win. Kya Brandt added eight kills, Morgan Valdez had seven and Alyssa Campbell (2 aces) had four. Jaelynn Siefer led Leipsic with 12 digs and Karly Garcia and Brandt both had six. Leipsic, 6-0 overall, will host Continental in a Putnam County League matchup today. The Vikings will then host Riverdale, which was handed its first loss by Arlington on Wednesday, in a BVC matchup on Monday. Selma Brant, a first-team all-BVC returnee for Van Buren, had 12 kills and nine digs and Brooklyn Wilkin had 11 kills, two blocks and seven digs. Lily Grine also had seven digs, with Lydia Ponn dishing out a team-high 23 assists for the Black Knights (5-2, 0-1 BVC). JUNIOR VARSITY: Leipsic 25-16, 25-15. L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;3 ADA &emsp;&emsp;0 FINDLAY – Liberty-Benton's Corra Dehart was 23-of-24 spiking with 15 kills and five blocks and the Eagles handed Ada its first volleyball loss of the season, 25-19, 25-15, 25-16, in Wednesday's BVC opener for both teams. Emelia Kin (16-16 spiking), Sadie Barnes (18-18 serving, 2 aces) and Elise Brzezinski (9 digs) all added seven kills for L-B (4-1, 1-0 BVC). Ally Hocanson led the Eagles with 30 assists, with Maddy Amstutz coming up with 19 digs and Evelyn Ricker with eight. Liberty-Benton will take part in the Kalida Pioneer Days Tournament this weekend, then return to BVC action Monday with a match at Arcadia. Anna Conley had five kills and Alivia Gibson (7 digs), Brook Andreasen, Tea Griffith (5 digs, 4 assists) and Dailah Preston added three each for Ada. Alyssa Madison led the Bulldogs (6-1, 0-1 BVC) with eight digs and Jaylin St. Laurent had eight assists, six digs and four aces. ARLINGTON 3 RIVERDALE 0 ARLINGTON – Callie Hartman and Mireya Velazquez hammered eight kills each and Arlington knocked Riverdale from the ranks of the volleyball unbeatens with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-12 BVC win over the Falcons. Hartman also had three blocks and Velazquez had eight digs in the BVC opener for both Arlington (4-5, 1-0 BVC) and Riverdale (5-1, 0-1 BVC). Ellie Marquart had team highs of 23 assists and 10 digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Arlington, 20-25, 25-17, 25-15. P-GILBOA &emsp;&emsp;3 MCCOMB &emsp;&emsp;1 MCCOMB – Pandora-Gilboa raced to a 2-0 lead and beat McComb 25-16, 25-18, 18-25, 25-15 in BVC volleyball action on Wednesday. Corrin Luginbill, a returning first-team all-BVC player for P-G, led the Rockets with 17 kills. Nevaeha Alvarado (4 aces) and Claire Osting added seven kills each and Kelsie Carlson had six. Ava Huffman, a second-team all-BVC returnee, had nine digs and Annabelle Benton had seven. Cora Hovest led the Rockets (4-2, 1-0 BVC) with 26 assists. Morgan Kern led McComb (2-1, 0-1 BVC) with 11 kills and 18 digs. Addisen Krassow added eight kills, Journey Scheff had seven and Maddie Beckman had two kills and six blocks. Claire Bryan led the Panthers with 20 assists and Lily Sebring had 15 digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Pandora-Gilboa 24-26, 25-22, 25-19. ELMWOOD &emsp;&emsp;3 ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;1 ARCADIA – Elmwood evened its overall record at 3-3 and is 1-0 in the BVC after rallying from a 1-0 deficit to beat Arcadia 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22. Ryleigh Bostic (5 aces) and Ellie Moes led Arcadia (2-3, 0-1 BVC) with nine kills each and Elyse Boes had six. Ivy Smith had a team-leading 24 assists and Lexi Theis had 16 digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Elmwood, 25-16, 25-17. VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;3 CRESTLINE &emsp;&emsp;1 CRESTLINE – Vanlue rebounded from a first-set loss to beat Crestline 19-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 and chalk up its first volleyball win of the season. Candace Saltzman pounded nine kills and Madison Brooks, Aubree Higgins and Riley Holbrook all added four. Phoenix Heuerman had 16 digs and Adrienne Phillips handed out nine assists for the Wildcats (1-5).
