Arcadia UM ARCADIA — The Arcadia United Methodist Church will open the month by celebrating Holy Communion. The Rev. Gery Hubbs will continue her series on the book of James with "Waiting and Praying." Morning worship starts at 10 a.m. following Sunday school at 9. Childrens Church and nursery are provided. At 8 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday, members are invited to join together to make noodles for the upcoming bazaar. United Women of Faith will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday for a program on Chopin Hall and its services. The women will also be serving lunch for Friends of a Certain Age on Sept. 19. In the next few weeks in preparation for the bazaar, members will be making apple dumplings. Both noodles and apple dumplings will be available at the bazaar. College First FINDLAY — Vision Sunday/Fall Kick-Off! will be held Sunday at the 9, 10 and 11 a.m. services at College First Church of God. The sermon message will be "Vision Sunday," and the scripture reading is Matthew 28:18-20. Where will God take you as a Christian steward as another church year begins? What seeds will you sow? Members will look at a new year of inspiration, growth, transformation and vision for College First. A Senior Fun Dinner is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Those attending are asked to bring a hot dish, salad or dessert to share. The main course, drink and table service will be provided. A special program will be given by Beth Yoder, who will share information about the upcoming Night To Shine event. Sign-up is in front of the church office. Contact the Rev. Hours will be 4-8 p.m. Sept. 18, and 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 19 and 20. The church is located at 2501 Broad Ave. First Lutheran FINDLAY — First Lutheran Church welcomes all to worship to celebrate the 13th Sunday after Pentecost. The Rev. Tucker O'Leary will share the message from Luke 14:25-33 and a special children's sermon. Worship services are at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. A brass quartet under the direction of Diane Adler will play an arrangement of "Abide With Me." Sunday school resumes at 9:30 a.m. for kindergarten through high school ages including confirmation. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. The Martha and Rachel circles will resume their meetings on Tuesday and Sept. 13. First Lutheran in conjunction with St. John's Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran churches will host a Blessing in Bloom cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13. Requests for the Blessing Basket Food Pantry at St. John's this month include egg noodles, paper towels, laundry soap, shampoo and dish detergent. These items can be placed on the cart by the elevator or dropped off at the pantry on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. O'Leary continues to lead a 15-minute midday prayer service at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday in the chapel for members and people of the community to sit and refocus their day with personal prayer. Holy Communion will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a short healing service will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays. First Presbyterian FINDLAY — The Rev. Jessica Commeret will begin preaching a fall sermon series, "Taking the Bible Seriously, But Not Literally," on at 10 a.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main St. The church will also celebrate Holy Communion. The Chancel Choir, handbells and festival brass will perform. Coffee hospitality is available beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall and continues after the service. Childcare for infants and toddlers begins at 9:45 a.m. All are welcome. Gilboa UM GILBOA — Gilboa United Methodist Church will hold its second annual pork chop dinner from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 13. Meals include pork chops, scalloped potatoes, green beans, roll and a cookie. The cost is $12 per meal at the door or in advance. Both dine-in and carryout options will be available. Tickets can be obtained from any church member or by calling 419-733-0505. Good Hope Lutheran, Arlington ARLINGTON — Good Hope Lutheran Church will offer Holy Communion on Sunday, the 13th Sunday after Pentecost.Services will be held at 7:30 a.m. and 10. Sunday. There will be no Saturday worship this weekend. The Rev. Steve Ramsey's message will be "Large Crowds, as Opposed to Disciples." Bible passages to be read include Deuteronomy 30:15-20, Psalm 1, Philemon 1-21 and Luke 14:25-33. All are welcome. Montgomery Moore will accompany the hymns and special music will be shared by Lou Ann Cousino on piano/organ and Jacob Branan playing trumpet. Their selections will include "Allegro Maestoso" for the prelude; "Great is the Lord" for the special music; and "Trumpet Voluntary" during the offeratory. This will be Rally Day Sunday which is the start of a new year of Bible study for all believers. Beginning at 9 a.m. there will be snacks and games for children and their families with an emphasis on getting excited about studying God's word as Good Hope continues to celebrate 125 years of service. The day focuses on the children while realizing that it is the parents who bring them to worship and Bible study. The youngsters can also look forward to a "children's message" each week during the 10 a.m. worship service. The senior choir has resumed practicing at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The choir will sing during the Sept. 14 worship service. New voices are always welcome. The church's food pantry will be held on Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. A call to the church office prior to Thursday will ensure that participants have a convenient pickup time. The pantry is free to everyone who desires a box of food and household products. Members of the congregation are encouraged to donate cereal and canned soup during September. Fifth Quarter will be held for Arlington students in grades 5-8 following Friday's football game. There will be food and fun for students at the church. The evening should end around 10:30 p.m. Grace Brethren FINDLAY — "The Great Race to the Top!" is the topic for the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at Findlay Grace Brethren Church, 209 Lexington Ave. The congregation will be studying Matthew 18:19, 20. Coffee and doughnuts will be served prior to the service, while pizza and fellowship will be available afterwards. The church will offer a nine-week Dave Ramsey Financial Peace Seminar starting Friday with sessions from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the church. Call 419-889-9710 for more information. Redeemer Lutheran FINDLAY — The congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church resumed its viewing of "The Chosen" during last week's church service. Amy Miller will share her message, "The Reluctant Prophet: God's Grace in Uncomfortable Places" on Sunday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Worship begins at 9 a.m. and includes scripture, music, prayer, a children's message and a meaningful sermon. Communion will be celebrated Sunday, and all are welcome to participate. St. Andrew's is looking at forming a multi-generational team for dart ball. Greg Hogrefe will lead a demonstration at 6 p.m. Monday in room 203. Members are encouraged to test their skills and see if this is a sport for them and interested friends. Signups are available on the Church Center or by calling the church office. The Senior Ministries Committe is planning a trip to the Wyandot Mission Church and cemetery in Upper Sandusky on Sept. 18. St. Marks UM FINDLAY — St. Marks United Methodist Church, 800 S. Main St., offers two worship services on Sunday mornings including a traditional service at 9 a.m. and a contemporary service at 10:45. Both services are live-streamed and can be viewed on Facebook and at StMarksFindlay.org . The Rev. Dan Metzger will start a new sermon series Sunday that pays homage to the Fruit of the Spirit. The first sermon will explore "Love," focusing on 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. Metzger has asked members to sign-up for a small group that will meet later in the week to discuss the Sunday sermons in more detail. St. Paul Lutheran, Jenera JENERA — The 13th Sunday after Pentecost will be observed at the 9 a.m. traditional service and the 11:15 a.m. contemporary service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 9340 Township Road 32. The Rev. Deb Noll will lead both services and communion will also be served. Sunday school for all ages begins at 10:15 a.m. A meeting for all parents of confirmation students and the first confirmation class will be held from 5-6 p.m. The Ignite youth group for grades 4-6 will meet from 6-8 p.m. Sewing Day will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Trinity Lutheran, Arcadia ARCADIA — The final Farmers Market of the season at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18974 Ohio 12, will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday featuring produce, fall candles, sports jewelry, noodles, buckeyes, Amish bread, sourdough bread and starter, baby chicks and eggs, and crafters. Vendors are not charged a fee to set up at the church. Vendors can set up as early as 2:30 p.m. on market days. They are asked to be in place by 4 p.m. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The church doesn't provide anything, so vendors need to bring their own tables, chairs and canopies. Handicapped accessible restrooms are available inside the church, but the vendor set-up is strictly an outside event. The church is partnering with Heart & Soul and Visit Findlay on the Farmers Markets. Registration is not required. Food trucks will be located on-site. Upper Room FINDLAY — A series titled "What's In It For Me?" will continue Sunday at the Upper Room Church of God. The message is "What's In Prayer For Me?" Life groups for all ages meet regularly at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays, followed by spirit-filled worship at 10:30. The church is located at 520 W. Bigelow Ave. The public is invited to attend a 6 p.m. Sept. 28 event when Isaac Steinhour kicks off his debut solo concert. Bible studies for men, women, teens and children are held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Anyone interested can join at anytime. West Independence WEST INDEPENDENCE — A blessing of the backpacks and students in grades K-12 will follow the Children's Moments along with recognition of educators at 9 a.m. Sunday at West Independence Church. The sermon series, "Daniel," will begin with scripture taken from Daniel 1:8-17. The sermon, "Resisting Babylon," will be presented by the Rev. Ben Wallick. Communion will also be served during worship. Following the service, coffee fellowship will be held in the Family Life Center. Sunday school classes begin at 10:15 a.m. and are available for all ages from nursery through adult. The worship service is livestreamed on YouTube. The Student Ministry group will resume meeting from 5-7 p.m. in the FLC and Loft. Grades 6-12 are welcome to join and bring a friend. The praise band will begin practice from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.
